I’ll eventually have mine uploaded, but it’ll likely be right as the deadline approaches (late on the 28th).

And on another note, it’s taking a turn for the darker. I’m working with two field recordings that involve a lot of gentle hum with some slight tonality emerging from the wash. Distortion seemed appropriate and really brings out some of the hidden tones.

I made something! I’m not sure if it holds up, but it is made. I might try again with @dnealelo’s birds tomorrow if I have the time.

Uploaded mine. Thanks @howthenightcame for a challenging and beautiful sample to work with! I hope you find my interpretation of it satisfying. Thanks @disquiet, @swhic, @jasonw22, @Olivier, and @jlmitch5 for leading and managing the project! Can’t wait to hear everyone’s pieces!

@dnealelo I’m absolutely sure I will enjoy your track, I’ve really enjoyed your previous contributions. Looking forward to hearing everyone else’s work too!!

Uploaded my track. Thanks @Szuumm, @disquiet, @jlmitch5 and all of the others involved in coordinating this and coming up with the ideas!

Uploaded mine as well. Like others I am also not completely sure of my track, probably because – in theory – this LCRP is very close what I do all the time for my music and I have grown a bit demanding with myself I guess, or maybe because I have tried some new FFT-based stuff on it, which I don’t fully understand yet, so it all feels a bit random.
But being limited to just two source materials, and especially having to work with the idea of balance was very challenging and interesting! Also I like how this LCRP was very different from many others that have been made in the past.
So thanks everybody for making this happen! Really looking forward to what everybody came up with!

I finished my track last night (and started going through others tracks to make sure there isn’t any file corruption or accidental clipping or what not–sounding great so far!)

I’ve now used field recordings and samples quite a few times in various musical things, and I think I’ve realized that my personal go to is to have them retain a lot of how they sound as they were recorded. I think I tend to treat using samples like a creative mixing challenge (and for live use–to compress them a lot and raise volume so they don’t get lost underneath other layers, especially if they have words). I also think I just enjoy the vibe of sounds that are blown-out and feel like they are played back through something less-than-hifi, heh.

For this track, I additionally added a drone under it that was in the key of a song playing in the background of one of the samples. I think that’s going to become common practice for me moving forward–adding synthesized elements in the background, so that when I play live with field recordings and samples, they fit into the vibe of what I’m doing a bit more.

Based on what I was hearing from everyone last night, I think this is going to be a really unique compilation. I’m excited to think more about the ways in which others approach the use of long-form samples and field recordings that’s different than how I do it to see if that might inform my own processes.

also–Make Noise just posted a video where the sample is from (the Asheville Pinball Museum) which I thought was pretty neat!

Ugh… I have to tap out on the deadline due to an unexpected illness. @alanza I’ll send you a copy of the piece when it’s complete, just for enjoyment (hopefully) and interest. So sorry I couldn’t make it by the date. Looking forward to hearing what everyone else has done with their pieces.

f’in a–. Ableton crashed on me about two hours ago, and it won’t reopen. I was trying to scramble to put something else together, but unfortunately don’t have many other tools set up and running. I might upload something (less than what I wanted) tomorrow morning. Sorry @alanza. That’s two tap outs on your tracks, at least for the time being. I’m so frustrated with my technology right now.

If it’s just a case of .wav stems that need mixing and exporting, can I help?

I uploaded mine last night, so just snuck in under the deadline

Wasn’t 100% happy with it, all my grand conceptual ideas ended up sounding rubbish! Thanks to all who organised, and as with everyone else I’m looking forward to hearing what we all came up with.

I cant see where to upload. Is it a matter of DMing? Actually managed to cut two things this time

Upload it back into the folder where the original samples are

Unfortunately, no. Basically, it crashed while I was recording a live pass of a long improvisation. The sample in the project’s Recorded folder is now corrupted and won’t open either. I’m going to try to remedy the situation this morning by patching together in Audacity some other passes I made though was less happy about.

Alright… so I upload a track (“TPH + Alanza - pendiente”). It’s not exactly what I intended to come out of this project, but it’s something. Not my best work, but I’d say it holds some attention.

I’m going to go through the tracks tomorrow so if anyone wants to upload before then, feel free to sometime today.

Okay, so, I switched out the file I submitted earlier this morning. I didn’t intend to do this because I had extra time, but I just so happened to find a hidden file on my desktop. I’m honestly not sure what the process was that resulted in the file, but I think it had to do with using Mammut late last night as I scrambled to remedy my Ableton crash situation. Basically, I was able to recover one of my improvisations from my Ableton session, threw it through Mammut and then randomly adjusted a few parameters. I didn’t think much of it and moved on to trying a different process.

Anyway, I found that file earlier tonight and liked it much better than what I previously submitted. I did some slight editing in Audacity and the end result is what’s now in the Google Drive folder: TPH + Alanza - naranjas.

It’s a little on the long side, but I like it—at least more than what I had in there before.
