Logging in with google was giving me grief so I guess new account time.
For this project I loaded 5 second snippets into Borderlands granular synth. Some parts of the recording contained unwanted clicks and noise so I trimmed the track down and stretched it up to five minutes in audacity. This gave the track a different character which I was actually happier with anyway.

The world conspired against my idle hands this week, so the devil will have to wait :-/ While the Junto was always just out of reach this week, I did want to thank Lee Rosevere for his generosity and wonderful music, which introduced an oasis of sanity and calm in a week of unbelievable craziness. Although my grubby little hands couldn’t make a mess of it, I was at least able to listen and look foward to hearing everyone’s contributions…soon I hope ;-). Cheers, G

Mixed the tracks together and ran some through vocorders of others, used a bit of delay, and a very little bit of reverb.

Sadly I didn’t get time to do this. My approach was going to be to layer the tracks, and cut most of the sound out- leaving very small and separated staccato notes, with lots of space between (possibly reverbed / echoed for some texture, but on the whole quite sparse). I am actually quite surprised no-one else went with a similar approach, though I love what has been done. Maybe I will get time to do something anyway once my studio is put back together on Thursday.

I am thinking: is a drone fractal? listening to some of the interpretations that have been sped up and slowed down, I experience the same diffused sense of time as listening to the originals at their original speed. I often think (as a kind of shorthand) that fractals “are” just those tiny pieces or edges, that repeat at scale, but those edges are the edges of spaces, the central and surrounding areas. related: do we know things only by their edges? I’m playing with metaphor here but perhaps it might find some aesthetic or sonic manifestation…

I hope you get a chance to do it! I thought of something sort of similar, initially, but went away from that idea during the making of mine  would love to hear…

I’m listening to 3 of these projects at once in a sort of rebellion to its original purpose – beautiful distorted layers of ambience… my son is playing a junk version of dixieland trap kit, playing along with Beiderbecke’s fidgety feet in his earbuds… good times in 21st century…
