This weekâs junto came from a discussion on Slack, where I wondered aloud what the musical equivalent of a pun is⌠I am afraid I am still none the wiser, as what i ended up with was a very groanworthy pun involving music - Vivaldiâs famous set of four violin concertos (which are just the first four in a suite of 12, opus 8, known collectively as âThe contest of Harmony and Inventionâ - and I urge you to listen to the rest, they are just as satisfying as the first four that everyone knows!)⌠The Four Seasons also happens to be a particularly tasty pizza⌠so I present for your delectation, a little slice of âPizza Quattro Stagioniâ, in which the opening of âSpringâ is played pizzicato.
At the risk of turning this into âquattro fromaggiâ, I used the cheesiest topping I could find - the âPizzagogoâ preset from the Roland D-05, which is instantly recognisable as the one used by Enya on âOrinoco Flowâ - which immediately rendered it useless to anyone else, until now.
Needless to say, this is NOT what I had in mind when I was questioning what the musical equivalent of a pun is.
I had actually thought about creating something new using a few motifs from each movement, but I ran out of time and inclination. I got distracted by pizzaâŚ
