I’ve been really sick this weekend, but wanted to contribute anyways.

I first tried to create a track out of some sound recordings I had, but that didn’t work out so well. So I re-did the project with eight notes and then substituted as directed. From there I shuffled things around and built it into a track. You can hear the original four notes and the first variation at the beginning. The only thing left from my sound recordings are the crickets and the beginning and the rain at the end.

I was a tad confused by the directions. It says to re-do the algorithm with two notes. But I can’t use notes that are unused in the second iteration, because all notes are already used when you add the two melodies together. So I tried adding different diads, then triads, then 4 note chords, making sure when replacing chords to use ones never used before. I ended up making them semi-arpegiated chords and squeezed all the notes for each note in the melody in the time frame it already took up.

After that I hooked the whole thing up to my modular system and added some extra noise.

• I then used random.org to choose one of the 43 scales
• The answer was #27

• Then I used random to choose the key, BPM and time signature

• Created the melodies in Musescore and imported them into Reaper as midi files.
• Copied the original melodies several times
• Generated new melodies in with Reaper with an action called: Rob U Midi Ex Machina lua which is a script for Reaper
• Added drums

No WiFi last night, so a bit behind the upload…
This was my third attempt…
Took me a while to get my head around the process…

All melody and notes chosen by random, chance.
Two sequences, original ‘altered’ is joined by the root melody, slightly arpeggiated, creating a melodic, rhythmic element, drums added via two drum machines/sequencers and a drum synth/sequencer.
