And here’s a Rack set of modules that’s close enough for jazz.

They Found Me (disquiet0381)
What a great prompt for the Junto this week. Thanks to Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud) and Marc for making it happen.
Tried to do the right thing and downloaded NI Access, Reaktor 6 and Blocks base, having never used any of their plugins before. Took a while since I needed to do a backup on the laptop. But better safe than sorry
After loading up Blocks in Reaktor, well to be honest, I wasn’t too impressed. The interface looks blurry and pixelated on my screen and I was informed it wouldn’t be compatible with future OS upgrades. But it’s free so I gave it a go. I am definitely not a modular expert and I found the connectivity and modules a little hard to use, particularly the cable management. Every time I tried to swap cables they would disappear or replace existing connections. I will admit it has been a very long day, hell, make that last couple of weeks, so it’s probably just me. Native’s intentions are good and I’ll try them out more in the future.
Thank God rxbx came to the rescue with the shared system VCV rack!!!

I was trying to find a substitute for the 4mods and wasn’t sure what to use, but thankfully somebody with infinitely more knowledge came to the rescue. I am reasonably adept with VCV, have even made an EP entirely with it https://soundcloud.com/hypoidsound/sets/uncertain-variations , but I had never tried anything this minimal before.
Cable management lost its difficulty and I was able to concentrate on the sounds. I did add two modules to the mix, but both are free. Plateau was a must to help add some space and the stereo record is the easiest way I’ve found to capture the mix. I couldn’t have been luckier, a great swelling oscillator sound grew with each new cable. Once the movement was created with patching, I began tweaking knobs while recording, adding more pulse width, fm and drive. A few more cables from SEQ-3 added quick bites of saw, pulse width and high freq diffusion on Plateau. I am pretty damned pleased

VCV for the win on this one but thanks to all the developers of these free systems, we’ve got a bunch of really great noise making choices!
*resource to learn everyone’s fancy post links and comments would be appreciated

You saved what little sanity I had left AND made it possible to finish this project before the city fighting grind begins again. Thank you!

I “redacted” my Serge to have just a small collection of modules roughly matching the prompt’s system. Then I constructed a patch that used them in some non-standard ways…

The patched played on it’s own for about two hours, and then I filmed this…

After you've watched it....

The video and audio are time-reversed: This is me deconstructing the patch.

Hi Everybody!

Here’s my contribution:

I went with my first little experiment, which was to modulate the LFO and to use as an irregular gate, which sounded a bit speech-like, so I cross-modulated various other bits to make it more so … great fun! Can’t wait to hear everyone else’s!

Have a lovely week,

Ok, I did what I could cause as mentioned I can’t/won’t install this freebie using Native Access.
But the I realized taht I do have an old version of Reaktor, and even a newer version of Reaktor Player (v6) that inckudes a freebie called Blocks Wired.
Never used Reaktor actually, ever.

Couldn’t find the bento modules to follow the instructions for this challenge and the files shared by @rbxbx are too recent for my old reaktor so couldn’t open it.

So this could be more of a non-submission cause I didn’t follow the simple step at all.
But, as I never actually tried to use this synth I made a demo track using only reaktor bolcks wired (4 instances of it) and it’s basic presets, just to check it out.
Don’t think I’ll use it again tho, couldn’t really relate to it and was a very uninspiring session, but here is this morning demo, FWIW.

Awesome idea! Thanks for putting the system together, @robinrimbaud. I’ll try to make a piece this weekend. For people discovering the Reaktor 6.3 update, I released updated versions of Euro Reakt for the new format. The Free Edition with 18 Blocks can be found at https://unfilteredaudio.com/collections/reaktor/products/euro-reakt-free-edition

For this Junto I have reinstalled Reaktor and now I remember why I had uninstalled it. :grinning:

I understand and appreciate that it’s been a challenge for some folks here and feel a little guilty about that, but it was an opportunity for people to try and explore using a free modular system with many sonic possibilities and trying to refrain from following the standard route of sequencer plays notes. Thankfully this forum completely gets it

And great work on the Blocks there!

No guilt. Thanks so much. I’d asked you to do it. It’s unfortunate people are having trouble, which I hadn’t foreseen, given how widely used Reaktor is, but folks have stepped up with alternate options, like VCV (and of course “redacted” Serge, if that’s available to you).

It was quite an obstacle to install NI Reaktor Blocks and get to know it a little first. But after a while the feeling wasn’t bad at all. I mapped several buttons on my old Oxygene 8 v2 keyboard and recorded several things, here four less bad minutes. You can imagine the rest…

No edit, besides fade in and out.
Thanks to @rbxbx: Without your files, I’d probably still be looking for Bento Blabla Thingy.

In the end I did it with Rack, just a simple sample and hold thingy.

Thanks for the challenge, @robinrimbaud!

If anyone uses Moog Modular V (Arturia softsynth), I’m happy to share my attempt to copy this Bento configuration; PM me and I’ll send you a preset file.

I couldn’t close or delete all of the unused modules in the MMV, and thought about putting some kind of blank boxes over them, just to make a cleaner interface. Not as straightforward, though, in software as @mzero’s brilliant “redacted” Serge, so I’m just trying to keep focused!

this is great, and it also really brings new meaning to Serge Paperface :grimacing:

Much as I like making tracks with constraints and themes I’ve avoided the Disquiet Junto because of time constraints…until now

Not sure why this one appealed to me

Recorded directly in Reaktor using the internal recorder in a single take. I did a little bit of post production in Ozone - including adding a little room reverb - if I’d gotten around to buying a guitar amp I’d have played it through that and rerecorded it…

Probably should have practiced more before recording - the timing/pitch goes a bit wonky at time but sod it - I’m going to claim it’s more “authentic” like this
