I love this.
Quite memorable.

This has been the main topic in my country for days: the heatwave. Today it has surpassed the previous heat record with 45,9 degrees. Here is the article in French if you’re interested: https://www.lemonde.fr/planete/article/2019/06/28/le-record-absolu-de-chaleur-en-france-battu-avec-44-3-c-atteints-a-carpentras-dans-le-vaucluse_5482748_3244.html
I tried to create a heatwave atmosphere with some synths from LogicPro. Tell me if it made you sweaty.

I love these challenges! And congrats Marc on nearing number 400, too. It’ll be interesting to see how your series is recognized a few decades from now. It’s so unusual and full of cool conceptual ideas.

I didn’t apply a vocal but instead had fun finding sets of words from local news headlines (and one news paragraph) to spin out a narrative.

Love this atmosphere… Amazing, as always!

I’ve grabbed a small sentence from a headline (CNN; France just had its hottest day ever recorded!) and mangled it.

I’ve created a “voice avatar” at LyreBird, and had that AI voice (that to me sounds like a digital ghost of myself) read a single line of the news bit. Then it has been mangled and a few extra sounds added. It’s a short piece (but… an important subject).

Used this article: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jun/28/boris-johnson-conservative-leadership-hustings-avoid-scrutiny-jeremy-hunt

Specifically this sentence:

Anyway, I knew when I saw the description of this project that I wanted to take samples from Boris discussing his bus making hobby. Put a bit of a beat under it and some chords using the xylophone program on Volca FM, some bus sounds and uploaded.

I’ve been living in France now for a couple of months and so far haven’t seen any turd like people walking around. I will let Mr. Johnson know.

I chose this article because it made me smile:

https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2014/08/25/bigfoot-researchers-of-the-hudson-valley-host-public-meeting-in-red-hook/

I now realize this was from 2014 but I linked to the article from the front page of our local newspaper, so go figure.

Bigfoot lives!

SoundCloud’s search returns are wonky this weekend, so if 24 hours pass after you post your track and it hasn’t been added to the playlist, lemme know.

The Times wrote: Theresa May has clashed with Donald Trump as she demanded world leaders take tougher action to combat climate change.

I used Emvoice One for the speech.

The news story is from the June 29, 2019 print edition of the Chicago Tribune. I looked through both major Chicago papers with the goal of finding something that was locally-reported, avoiding the crime stories. I also skipped a couple other possibilities that opened with very short sentences or fragments. The online version of this story is somewhat different, having been posted earlier and in the future tense, describing an upcoming visit.

After several frustrating attempts at generating a satisfactory computer-voiced version, I recorded myself in the best faux-newscaster voice I could. (The unaltered reading is appended at the end for comparison or curiosity.)

The alterations to the voice are fuzz distortion, wah filter and delay.

“Drums” are from the Xpand! plugin, played manually through a MIDI keyboard. Not quantized. I set the tempo to match my natural vocal rhythm in the first few syllables.

Other instruments are from my Prophet Rev2.

Tonal instruments are tuned to Kraig Grady’s centaur 7-limit just intonation: http://www.anaphoria.com/centaur.html

“What’s happening at the border doesn’t match the scale of these horrors, but if, as appears to be the case, these harsh conditions have been intentionally inflicted on children as part a broader plan to deter others from migrating, then it meets the definition of a mass atrocity: a deliberate, systematic attack on civilians.” -Kate Cronin-Furman

SoundCloud’s search (at least on my brower) continues to be broken, so this post is a bookmark telling me which earlier tracks I’ve already added to the playlist.

A sentence from an article entitled “‘Slow’ roll-out of median barrier despite reducing deaths by half” on the RNZ website (https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/393311/slow-roll-out-of-median-barrier-despite-reducing-deaths-by-half)

The sentence is synthesized then mangled in various ways with a bassline and drumtrack added.
