I decided to do two: I was allocated “Krakenkraft Berlin School” almost didn’t want to touch this. It was kraftwerky but the ebow playing really reminds me of early Eno, so I thought i’d get into a kind of Can groove with drums over the top, or maybe it’ s more 80’s Sheffield. anyway very much fun to do this when everything else is so fkd up.

Excited by the thought of even more cowbells I made a synth patch to make cowbell sounds but then got carried away a bit! x Gus

My second track for this disquiet contest.

This time I picked up randomly the great track User-711331258 – Ampfractcellorgdisquiet0430 by K Joule based on Candle Nine’s @candle-nine.

I did this with Ableton Live (Auto-Feedback->Limiter->DeepChorus->Daedalus Delay -> Warm Up Highs->Narrow Stereo and some big cathedral reverb on this. The original track was sonically unchanged.

I first selected 19 tracks out of last week’s bounty, wrote and recorded something which felt about right for the feel I got from those, and today settled on the track from Veronica Soria and stijn hüwels:

The end result was

You hear a slowed down tape loop processed with Cranes, an OP-1 1-track loop, and a bandpass filter from Hainbach’s Isolation Loops chopped and sequenced on a Digitakt, all tracked and mixed in Live.

For this weeks project I used the a random number generator and came up with a piece from @mzero & @banabila. I really liked the slow and dark atmosphere of the track, so I was happy with the outcome.

It lent itself to quite an industrial sound so I added drums to the center at 64.5 bpm (what I roughly estimate the original tempo to be). I work a lot with drums in general but usually at a higher tempo, so it was fun to try and do something slower.
I also added some arpeggiated notes from a 0-coast - I usually neglect it but have recently picked up an Eventide Timefactor which it pairs with really nicely.
I found some samples to weave in from an answer phone message website.

My random number generator gave me 72, a piece by @BennDeMole & @baconpaul called Piano & Flute. It was built from a pair of free improvised lines and sounded quite interesting. I decided to respond by adding a third similarly (one take) improvised line.

The original wasn’t panned so I decided to try Spleeter to divide the parts, which worked quite well. I made a fairly simple sound with a noisey bell like character on the Peak. I’m not too happy with the exact part I played but it had its moments.

I’m a bit short on time so this might be my only entry this week. Thanks everyone for a fun series of projects!

I couldn’t resist using 0429 from @lowellgoss (Cerchio di luce) and 0430 from @damon (Light Walk) alongside my own 0430 (drench). I added a field recording of the TTC from years ago, and mixed in some slightly-processed versions of each of the original tracks.

This one has a funny story. My first randomly selected track was already taken. My second was… my own. But the third was “phaze too” by @banabila and then @mzero. I love this track, and sent a message on soundcloud last week to say so. I soon got a reply from @mzero, thanking me for my initial contribution - even though I hadn’t done anything!! This was blamed on a lack of coffee, but now it turns out that I actually HAVE contributed. Since @mzero apparently has the power to see into the future, maybe we could ask about next week’s lottery numbers.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I added some keys to the duo.

EDIT: It just gets better!! This duo was also already taken by @mdh. And I’d already commented on it. Welcome to my world. I am blaming this whole situation on a lack of coffee. Definitely do not ask me for next week’s lottery numbers.

All 17 dices showed 6 (surprise!), so I took number 102: “Surf Waves” from @MattDavisMusic (and @zoundsabar )

I found this one difficult, because it already felt very rich in details and very finished, Matthew did so many different things with his guitar.

I added some subtile pads (at least I hope they are mostly subtile) with the Tyrell N6 VST and tried to follow his improvisation, plus some kind of plaintive solo and two more waves from the original recording.

I’m afraid I forced the end too much into something positive and transcendent, but it felt right considering how zoundsabar explains the circumstances of his wave field recordings – I hope you like it anyway, guys.

I liked the mood of this track by @banabila and @euclidian and thought I might be able to put some guitar to it. For pedals I went phaser > fuzz face > delay > dirty amp sim. That IS too much distortion, but that’s how I like it sometimes. It didn’t quite sound right to me but I randomly got the idea to then reverse it, and that added the feeling of uncertainty and chaos that I was craving. In order to fade it out, I used a flanger controlled by an envelope follower so that it was a bit more interesting than a normal volume fade. Overall it kind of makes me think of Further Down The Spiral if anyone remembers that album.

This is my contributions this week: I recorded an acoustic guitar over a track made by @chalkwalk and @PopGoblin. I had found it by random number selection, but I liked it immediately.
On Friday I recorded a quick acoustic guitar over it, but had only a fist take. Last night I tried to use beatrepeat and other splice and dice-plugins on it which yielded interesting results, but the source track I had recorded had a couple of errors so I did not move forward with it. this morning after breakfast I started to record the acoustic guitar again and found that I like it better without the cut-up-plug ins. I noticed that there is some beautiful violin and made it a bit more prominent in the mix by using a compressor.
This has been a big pleasure to work on, I hope that @chalkwalk and @PopGoblin like it!
Now it is nearly noon over here in Berlin, it´s a very bright sunny day. Birds are tweeting, spring is finally kicking in. I will close the computer now and have a walk with the kids, they still let us do that over here in Berlin, fourth week into quarantine starting. Greets to all of you out there around the planet. My second random duo to finish as part of Disquiet Junto project 0431 is Sam-tellman – Solitary-ensembles-pt-ii-disquiet0430 by @karst, whose source track was Glsmyth – Solitary-ensemble-part-1-disquiet0429 by @GLSmyth I added a syrupy oboe melody and gave the piece the title I think it deserves now: A Postmodern Idyll.

The end didn’t sound forced to me, it sounded like a fitting resolution. It makes the song feel like it was going somewhere and finally arrived.
