Three GRAMMYs here – and burning night clubs … I like it very much!

My second random duo to finish as part of Disquiet Junto project 0431 is Sam-tellman – Solitary-ensembles-pt-ii-disquiet0430 by @karst, whose source track was Glsmyth – Solitary-ensemble-part-1-disquiet0429 by @GLSmyth I added a syrupy oboe melody and gave the piece the title I think it deserves now: A Postmodern Idyll.

Very nice, I think that the oboe helps hold everything together.

The end didn’t sound forced to me, it sounded like a fitting resolution. It makes the song feel like it was going somewhere and finally arrived.

And here is the other one I did today. Also drawn by random number. I worked with contributions by @grosse and @chaonaut.
Again acoustic guitar with open tuning, this seems to be my instrument these days. This time I dared to add effects, so there is a delay with oscillating delay time added to space out even more.

here the original two tracks I added my part to:

The random number generator said 90: “Magnolia” from @verosoma (and @stijn).

I tried to marry the two panned tracks by juxtapositioning some kind of echos (echos, reverbs, dronemaker…), so that no additional melodic material would be added and everything would be based on existing melodic sounds. I also glued in some repetitive, fresh noise recordings and something like a noise guitar solo. I’m not perfectly happy with the result, but on the other hand sometimes you have to let go.

Hello, folks. The playlist on SoundCloud should be up to date now, but if one of your tracks is missing, let me know. Thanks.

MY random number generator came back with 90, just like @krakenkraft’s…well, after my first attempt which gave me my own submission. As it was it’s a lovely ambient guitar piece from Stijn Hüwels with subtle percussive accents from Verosoma. My instinct was to add a bucolic lo-fi acoustic track à la early Bibio, and it evolved (?) from there. I sent the acoustic recording through sidechain compression to add some random dynamics, then through a parametric EQ with a bunch of automation, then through the granular delay. Hopefully I’ve added to the piece without destroying its beauty or pacing.

Important question: Is pretty much everyone holding onto a copy of their “third” part of this project? I have some ideas for a fourth project in this series, and one of them would be based on all three separate lines being available for subsequent reuse.

I figure for the second project, the musician in this hypothetical fourth project could just isolate the left and right channels. I suppose you could also subtract the second project from the third to yield something approximating the isolated line in the third project, but that wouldn’t necessarily be sonically clean. And then again, it’s not like sonic cleanliness is my bag.

Thanks to your lucky dice you found your way to our door, @krakenkraft. I love where you took this piece with your very sensitive listening and interacting you’ve produced something I really enjoy. Very fresh and cool.

A random pick turned up the moody piece by @banabila and @euclidian. I added some tape looped nylon string guitar to try to keep with the dark churn of the original. I hope it worked! Thanks banabila and euclidian for your excellent tracks.

Process: I picked a random track - 26, and really enjoyed the sense of atmosphere and space. I thought i could add to it and hopefully without obscuring what came before. Thanks to @chalkwalk and moduS ponY for the great track to work with!

I grabbed the track, loaded it in Live and came up with the effected guitar you hear. The stutter glitches in between chords are from Red Panda Particle, tone from Fairfield Randy’s Revenge in LPG mode, and a little ehx Memory Boy and a light flange from Roger Linn AdrenaLinn3 for some glue. I kept the part fairly simple since this feels like a textural mood piece to me.

So I was about to upload it, when I discovered I had grabbed the mixed track from ChalkWalk, instead of the stems! I wanted to hear more of the drone part anyway, so I grabbed that and brought that in half way, and panned hard right to pay honor to the original rules (oops!). Also - I realized that Ableton had applied warp to the track, and was playing back at a faster speed! I had a few takes, so was able to expand my part from the takes I had to fill out the whole track after un-warping the original piece.

I created a playlist with the actual entry for the junto, the shorter piece I mistakenly started with at the faster tempo, and finally - I just saw Marc mentioning a possible future project with the isolated 3rd part - so I added that to the playlist too.

sure, i can always export the 3rd part if it’s needed. Good idea. Really enjoying listening to the results x Gus

A random track chose me and we has fun together. @pfig (I think, Stray Wool) wonderful atmospheric field recording + synth “The Last Day” & Joe McMahon/Equinox Deschanel’s (don’t know if you’re here to @?) “Where I was” lovely drone piece…

So there’s a bit at the start of the field recording where you hear a kid go “hi again” & I decided to take that phrase & warble it repeatedly whilst drenched in a shimmering gown of reverb in front the open window with the sun shining in… i can’t play no instruments but i can do that i spose

cheers all, happy daze…

Cheers! I should set up the 707 more often.

Great! I had to make a decision to do less and it wasn’t easy.

Hello, I added a little to the mixed version of Chaonaut – Solitary-ensembles-part-2-feast-for-small-wings-disquiet0430, who used this track as a starting point: Melondruie – Solitary-ensembles-part-1-disquiet0429

I had downloaded a dozen or so of the x2 tracks, and played with them until I found one where I could add something. Many things are actually fitting to this, but it quickly becomes too hectic, so I kept it minimal. Cheers, it was fun!

Threat detected. Sound red alert.

RNG gave me @krakenkraft submission from last week, #40 in the playlist, https://soundcloud.com/winterer/threat-disquiet0430?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0430. It was built on @MattDavisMusic submission from the previous week, https://soundcloud.com/matthew-thomas-davis/bass-drones

I broke some of the rules. Previous submissions were mixed together, no left/right separation, and both artists indicated in their description that they were open to further manipulations. I made separate left and right channels, filtered both, leaving lower frequencies on the right and higher frequencies on the left. I then shaved some bass off the lower side to leave some room for my additions. I feel doing this helped bring out the best from both parts of the previous submissions.

I added a cello drone and some guitar feedback based drones to add some atmosphere and help bring everything together. Hopefully it was successful, I feel pretty happy with the result.
