I liked the beautifully restrained solo piano track by @bellyfullofstars and with apologies to bfos, I unrestrained it by duplicating it and putting one copy each through two different tape loopers. I added some choral vocalizations to pick up some of the overtones of the piano.

got #53 through the random number generator & was quite glad to get Name-constant – Solitary-ensembles-x3-melondruiechaonautncdisquiet0431; a brooding, rich, damp little piece - to my ears ideal for soundtracking the discovery a secret in a horror film.

I initially intended to make something more or less like i always do - a distended collage of elements and gritty little sounds, lathered in hiss and lurches * b u t * somehow i got hung up on a small loop of kick & snare that i could pitch up [and down] into a [to my ears] not unappealing lope…

So yeah, i sort of shoehorned the more delicate work of @melondruie, @Chaonaut & @name_constant into a garbled and tangled beat work-out with resolutely extraneous found sound edges. The only audio i provided was the snatch of birdsong, everything else is a snippet extracted from the three stems more-or-less egregiously repurposed.

A good way to spend a bank holiday afternoon i think. Cheers @disquiet, as always & thanks again to @melondruie, @Chaonaut & @name_constant

Remixes are not really my thing, but here are my stems, just in case someone wants them:



These 3 weeks were a great learning experience for me - listening replaced discussing the tracks with the other members of the trios, then figuring out the pieces’ characteristics, mixing in a DAW, etc. Thank you @disquiet!

I have isolated my stems from previous contributions:

Solitary_Ensemble_x2 : which came from @Sam_Knot’s original solo ensemble

Solitary_Ensemble_x3 : Which came from @mzero and @banabila x2 ensemble. When exporting my stem I used my Timefactor delay pedal again - but hadn’t saved a preset from when I originally rendered it, so its probably very slightly different to the original.

I hope I got all the credits right below. I had trouble finding separate versions of each of the three parts. In the end, I used Ohm Research’s final mix as my starting point. I didn’t change it at all except for the track volume in places. I added Richard Burton reading some Shakespeare. I added an Uneven Two Beat delay effect to Richard Burton in some places. I also added a Vinyl Siren drone on B-flat to hold things together. Finally, I used the MAX Celluloid Mystery effect on the whole thing. It was all done in Ableton Live.

All in all, it was an exhausting but rewarding experience. I chose my starting track at random. It’s in a completely different style than what I usually work on, so it took me a while to figure out how to add my style and thoughts without changing the original track’s character. I hope I succeeded in that.

I rolled the 83-sided dice of probability and landed on 23, cue: ušće’s (Disquiet0431)Trio With Krakenkraft / Matthew Thomas Davis. A nice, rich slab of ambience.

I thought about ways I could potentially remix this. It had been a while since I’d last undertaken anything resembling a remix. I decided to employ my oft-ignored Ableton Live and chop up the original track into a repeating motif and subsume some rhythmic elements into it.

As a result, it’s more densely packed than my usual offerings. The overall rendering of the track (lots of compression and sidechaining) coaxed out some interesting textures and artefacts from the original track.

Well, this is a kind of half-remix/half-part-4 maybe? I just did what I felt like doing with what I had available at the time - thanks tho @banabila, I dowloaded your track just now & might revisit this project down the line - anyways probably for the best as otherwise I’d likely still be fiddling now & most of tomorrow & I got other bits I should be doing this weekend. So basically first thing this morning I played Banabila’s track, which I had earmarked for maybe working with, and improvised some words/tune over the top, which became the refrain - I also used those raw recordings from my phone to bookend the piece (inc. letting a hornet out the window at the end) - and then I wrote a quick couple of passages in the mode of a weird dad & daughter chatting, which is sort of the warm pleasant wonky vibe I got from the tune - and when I came to perform that, which I only did once this time (trying not to worry/think too much), I did so at 2/3rd speed because the track said “Tempo 83bpm” & I was at 120 - anyway I very nearly left the whole thing slow like that, as I kind of enjoyed it, but maybe it was just a little too weird, and long, so now it’s back to x1.

Well, I’ve really enjoyed every stage of this, and I’m very pleased to have found this fun little corner of tinternet. Thank you all, all the best, xx

hey All, Hope all are safe and well. I will have to say the tracks that have been submitted the last few weeks were excellent. Everybody really brought something to the collaborations and I was surprised how well people worked off the other tracks. So shout outs to all for jobs well done. I chose esse quio’s track ©disquiet0431 (calmnesia X How The Night Came) cause I really liked the vocal and wanted to work with that. I will probably do a few more but wanted to go ahead and post.

I chose Calmnesia´s track disquiet0431 who added a very cool percussion track to the track of Daniel Diaz´ ebowed guitar-solo over Jet´s track, I added a bass and an e-piano, a drum-track and some guitar-chords plus some ambience

• Placed each downloaded track (2) into Reaper as they were and then used Reaper to automatically find the tempo of both tracks combined which turned out to be 71.111 bpm
• Made copies of both tracks and reversed them and placed them on there own tracks for a total of 4 tracks
• Added to FX send tracks and put NI guitar rig on both sent track 1 to the first send track and track 4 to the second send track
• used numerous racks in guitar rig for processing

For this project I particularly wanted to use a track which had vocals in it. I have a great fondness for the eccojams Oneohotrix Point Never did under an earlier pseudonym - to take fragments of well known music, particularly bits with vocals he found that emphasised a deep desire or longing and drown them in echo and reverb and then looping them for a good few minutes creating a very washed out kind of sound. I quite often find I like these reworks more than the original songs.
So, my entry this week is inspired by that kind of approach.

I used the collaboration between @howthenightcame @calmnesia and Essie Quoi (for some reason I can’t find you on here Essie - I’m sorry, I’ll have a better look when I get a chance and tag you!). Which had all of the elements I wanted to make my own eco-esque-jam. I deliberately didn’t look for or wait for any individual stems, preferring to EQ the various different tracks.

I’ve recently picked up a LaunchControl XL for mixing in Ableton - but really didn’t dedicate any time to really figuring out how to use it besides occasionally turning a panning knob. This project presented a great opportunity to dive a little deeper with it :slight_smile: So here I’m mostly just making a few passes and messing with effects and volume while in record mode.
