Yes, the radio example really demonstrates those modes of listening. Gives good context to the subjective experience I was trying to articulate, which is otherwise difficult to quantify.
There’s a similar thing that happens in theatre too, that sense of losing the safety net when someone forgets a line. It’s kinda like that heightened state in jazz performances during solos.
