Ok, this is a bit scarey as it looks like Melondruie and I have been in some kind of unwitting mind-meld by covering each other’s tracks…:astonished:

I started by feeding Melondruie’s original track through two different instances of modulated wave-shaping/filtering/frequency-shifting/ring modulation in Absynth, then gated them and sent them through arcdev’s ET-301 delay unit set to different delay times with modulation of the tone and resonance. Got some cool dubby glitchy sounds but they were a bit chaotic on their own. After some exploration, I found a two-bar loop in Xpand’s ‘Loops for Pads’ section that I played around with running through Gatekeeper and got lucky and found a groove I was happy with. I then ran this through a modulated instance of Cableguy’s Halftime with some compression and another instance of Gatekeeper to slightly mess it around a bit more. I think it keeps the rhythm going OK and makes a decent backbone for the dubbyish glitchy sounds.

Really glad I’m able to join in this project this year. If there was any MO to my approach, it was probably vaguely contrarian, i.e. what does a gently sonorous looping ambient track need? Why, a spiky glitchy rhythm track of course! I’m actually pretty pleased with the result.

For my first entry this week I picked the track by @ymeynard . My thinking was that it could do with percussion so that’s what I did. I designed a set of percussion sounds and finger drummed the kit I’d made along to the music. This worked reasonably, though I struggled for transition on and out of the bridge section and wasn’t sure what to add in the bridge in any case so I left it quite sparse. I quite like the rhythm I came up with for the verse section anyway.

Almost all the sounds are from the (fairly recently released) drum synth added to the new gen MPCs. I’ve been pleased with how it works and the range of sounds you can get with it. The only other sound source was some extra snare/hat sounds from my modular, mostly as I already had a tempo synced percussion patch in place so I just turned down the other elements and it did its thing. Other than that it was just a bit of EQ and my usually mastering chain plus my sends.

You can download a version with the part hard panned here. Overall I think it went okay; now on to my second duet!

ChalkWalk! Thank you so much for doing this!

The side chaining technique makes for a very successful bridge of the stereo divide!

I’ve chosen #3 by @Bick_Brannigan. What a sad story about a lonely 80’s boy. I added some clicks and pops and a little bit of chorded melody to the right side. Details are in the track description. This was a lot of fun and I may grab a second track to contribute another one this week since we’re allowed two. For the first time in a Junto prompt, I did a second take and I’m glad I did. I think I played along to Bick’s part decently.

I also took track 18 by @morgulbee for my second contribution. I tried to keep a spacey vibe and provided right side tracking that should make for a fun track to play over in Week 3.

I’m pleased to be working on 23 @gibbsdavidl

Glad you like it. I wanted to create a contrast to the guitar sound, not only in terms of timbre, but also a less regular rhythm.

That’s great! It was really fun, glad you enjoyed it.

Used the track from @chalkwalk and added a Roland D50 bassline and Ableton built-in synth arpeggio-like sequence on the other channel, bit of reverb and delay.

So many tracks to choose from! I went with @Peter 's lovely rhythmic track, which I remixed a little to spread it across mainkly the left part of the stereo field. I then added two tracks on the Novation Summit (a stereo pad, and a guitar-esque sound that I spread across mainly the right half of the stereo field).

Hey Junto! Here is Nate Trier and me getting down to it. I have had a blast working with many people’s tracks. I will wait to post my second submission Tuesday. Cheers Marc for getting this group together. Everybody brings something unique to the table like a gourmet potluck dinner.

Peace, Hugh

Production Notes

While listening to last week’s contributions (excellent stuff!), I found Stray Wool’s „Bedding“ (Bedding [disquiet0472] by Stray wool | Free Listening on SoundCloud) highly interesting and promising for a collaboration.

When I first got my Cocoquantus, I started recording random bits and pieces for use in later pieces, and the right-side is an unaltered version of one of these recordings. I added EQ automation and a small metal noise with a lot of reverb.

Added some chords to the melodica piece by @Leonard_Bowman but only in the 3/4 part. No Fx and guitar panned hard left.

The second piece is based on the spoken poem by @project-dirigent because I really liked the way it was made. I just added some soundscapes using VCV-Rack and a metallophone.

sounds great! Though I picked an easy scale for pianos I know my timing probably made it harder to work with. Great job!

My second submission for this week. RNG gave me @chaonaut track from last week. At first I struggled with how to add to it, eventually decided I need to embrace the tension in the original and try to add some additional anxious textural drones along with a deeper build to mirror the build in the original. Also tried to leave some space for the third round of things if anyone decides to take it further. Oh, I should also add that I keyed my part to D minor and used 72 bpm as a best guess for tempo, but I think both are pretty flexible for any additions.

I used @hightunnels “solo” as the basis this week, making the duet “High Tunnels & High Towers”

My input consisted of writing a melodic sequence using Kria & Ansible, then triggering this with a manually tapped gate, rather than using a clock. I’ve skirted dangerously close to the “Rings into Clouds” cliche, but have gone with “Rings into Count to 5 into Instant Lo-Fi Junky into Clouds” instead, with some Arc cycles adding modulation & movement.

A Disquiet Junto collaboration with @kn00t, my second submission this week. I added cello, piano and clarinet arpeggiations in the right channel to @kn00t’s left channel unsynced synth loops. There’s certainly room left for someone else to add a lead melody or vocal, some percussion, or just something way out there.

I randomly chose #12 in the Jam Time playlist by @gentil which splices together a lovely rain on metal recording with some synth noodly rhythms, creating an unlikely but appealing combo.

It rained here that day and I’ve been playing with the new Geofon contact mics, so I stuck them onto a downspout and got an interesting beat. I also played with an improv of some Falistri tones played with knobs and Sapel. Lots of editing of the material in Pro Tools leads to this.

Like the original track, it’s pretty busy, but a third artist is encouraged to remix as needed to create room for anything they want to add. In fact made stems available to make that easier. Here Mio Placebo stems zipped on Dropbox is a link to download those.

Thanks! I would never voluntarily hard pan anything, so it was my way of compensating.

Thank you chaonaut and thank you all. I love working with others, the inspiration is always more and different.
