Trying to make sure I get time to do more this year!
I fired up the modular, removed all the cables, put a copy of the photo on my monitor, and followed it where it wanted to go. This is the resulting track. A bit sort-of Berlin school spy drama music.

IAH is the callsign for the biggest airport in Houston. It used to refer to Intercontinental Airport Houston, but the airport is now Bush Intercontinental. So the call sign is a relic of an earlier time, but is still used today.

@disquiet @nullconfluence thank guys, didn’t imagine that at all. My airport code culture is limited to LAX, JFK and the ones in my own countries, So I learned something.
(I learned KIX last year, mind)

Berlin school Spy drama is a great album title!

I had to look it up when I was sorting out a proper title.

A track from LPL… I kept the inputs minimal (a field recording of a road and 3 simple tracks of Volca FM) before pushing everything through an AKAI Head Rush guitar pedal. I treated the dry and the 4 independent delay outputs slightly differently with a bit of panning and light phasing here and there.

I live in the city center, and I hate street noise. Wherever I go, I use earbuds to listen to something, be it a podcast, an audio book, or music. I try to separate myself from the noise, but this Disquiet Junto reminded me to do otherwise.

The image for this week’s Junto is amazing. The melancholy sucked me right in: the mist, the noise, the small rooms, the parking lot, that all made total sense.

So the “Music for Distant Airports” approach seemed right… and add a litte “Fernweh” to it.

I chose a field recording of a highway and let it play throughout the whole piece with some volume changes. The rest was made with Norns, Moog Matriarch, and the Arturia Easel plugin.

chill lofi beats to swear at your computer by

This started with the idea of drums being lowpassed out of existence amid a rauschenish sound. For some reason the photo made me think of a film transition or montage, so that’s sort of the feel I had in mind. I wanted to use a diminshed scale for extra bleakness but I can’t even write simple tonality so I fell back on that instead. Tenths, tenths everywhere.

Ableton Live 11 Beta.
Field recording from an AudioMoth in my shed late one snowy night. Wind and/or distant traffic? More sustained than those usually are. I dunno.
Drums: Battery 4, Underpass kit.
Bass: Scarbee Pre-Bass Amped (Kontakt library) → Chorus/Ensemble effect.

I made a video discussing this Junto, and the Junto in general:
