I started out listening to the provided files and found them rather high-pitched. And everything developed from this impression…

I started building a Padshop (Cubase granular synthesizer) sound with the “walking” audio and let it play the Midi extracted from a pitched down “nacre voit” audio. This is the pad playing alternately with the following one:
The “nacre voit” audio is pitched down two octaves, high enerving frequencies are eqed out.
A second Padshop with an adapted sound derived from “walking” is triggered by the generative Midi sequencer Transition, these are the melody elements.
The “PSU stairs” is pitched down three octaves. It is sliced, and the single sounds are played by another instance of Transition, resulting in great percussions.
The “no input matrix” is slowed down by the factor 10 and gives the background noise.
The repeated first three seconds of “street poet” is the in- and outro

Multiple effects were added to all these tracks (except in- and outro).

I don’t know whether such transformations are still in the realm of this project, but everything was created from the 5 audios only.

Didn’t actually modify the source sounds all that much. Went for a “stir fry” instead of a “casserole” when it came to mixing these sounds…

My first Junto was 23 which was to create a palindromic drone. I am really grateful for the Disquiet Junto projects, over the years it has taught me so many different ways of approaching sound. Sometimes time or circumstance mean I don’t get to participate but it always gives me so much pleasure to hear other’s interpretations of the brief . There’s always a “how did they do that?” Moment when going through the play list.

Thank you Marcus for your samples, I used four and manipulated them in the same way I did in my first Junto, stretching the samples and running through reverb and resonators. The result is a bit muddy and unruly, but funnily enough so was my first ever Junto so there’s a nice circularity to it all, palindromic almost.

I used all 7 of Marcus’ samples layering the melodic over the rhythmic with minimal processing. I added some drum and bass along the way to maintain momentum. Thankyou @disquiet and @marcus_fischer for the opportunity and means to participate!

Congrats @disquiet for 600 rounds / episodes / seasons of the Junto!

I really enjoyed listening to the samples provided by Marcus Fischer and was tempted to leave them run as they were. Instead, I took a (hopefully) gentle remix approach, dropping them into an SP404 mkii where I spent most of my time with a few samples I picked from the set.

Congratulations on reaching week 600 - an accomplishment of significance.
Thank you also to @marcus_fischer, who offered some sonically delicious tracks to work with this week. I decided to channel my inner Klaus Schulz and Tangerine Dream to produce a track a bit different from my “usual.” AND - it’s short (!)

Looking forward to the feedback from this supportive community.

Enjoyed working with @marcus_fischer’s generous contributions this week.

Building on the tracks ‘hands held’, ‘worn path’ and ‘walking’ - the first two of these combined and frozen in a granular sampler’s buffer (beads), and hits from the third used to excite a resonator (rings). Some arrangement and processing in ableton, with ‘hands held’ bookending the final track.

I liked the almost piano like timbres that occasionally came out of rings. I didn’t like accidentally hitting the ‘freeze’ button on beads wiping out my carefully set up buffer

Firstly, Marc, thank you for this wonderful creative @disquiet community. What an amazing thing you make happen here every week. @marcus_fischer these samples were beautiful to work with.

I started by trying to make a rhythm based track by breaking down a 12 second fragment of the ‘no input matrix mixer’ sample but that was abandoned after an hour.

I became fixated with the need for inclusion of ‘an unadulterated segment of one of the provided tracks for at least two seconds’, so using that as my starting point I layered four of the samples (‘hands held’, ‘nacre volt’, ‘walking’ and ‘worn path’) on Audacity and found that the beginning of each sample fitted together well. Which led to the building up of this:

The 600th Disquiet Junto? Wow. Thanks you so much, Marc, and of course all of you participants! The Junto has played a key role in my live, and I can’t thank all of you enough.

I withstood the idea to go for pure ambient with the material. Instead I tried to make a mellow piece with a bit of a pulse. All sounds come from Markus Fisher’s lovely samples. I treated them with S&A Cycles, Beneath the Bush of Ghosts, and Ableton’s Simpler for bass and melodies.

Hey all, hope everyone is doing well. Thank you for the use of the samples Marcus, they are lovely.

I had a lot of fun using some IOS apps to create this. I used Samplr to create a melody using the Hands Held sample, and a Bass using the worn path sample. I recorded and looped the melody and just played the bass by hand.

The piece starts and finishes with the no input matrix sample as a noise bed.

I used Gauss to manipulate nacre voit, and borderlands to create some moving percussion with PSU stairs.

These samples were super easy to work with, thank you Marcus. I loaded them onto my Octatrack and had something I was happy with in a couple minutes. I only ended up using the Walking and Hands Held files and there are no other sound sources in the track. I put the OT cue into the Lyra-8 external input for delay and a touch of distortion.

I’ve had this idea for a long time: turning slowly evolving drones and textures into percussion and pulses.
When I listened to the source material, I knew what I wanted to do!

The process
I placed all sounds on separate DAW tracks and listened to them. I already liked how it sounded, the sounds fit together in a beautiful way and I was tempted to just leave them as is.

I used sends to create 3 different “submixes” that I liked. I recorded these 3 sounds and worked with them, disregarding the other material.

Then, I processed these 3 voices with Eurorack envelopes and VCAs, coming up with a trigger sequence, envelope timing, levels and EQ that I liked. I spent around an hour on it, until I had sounds that reminded me of some kind of rough, textured canvas stroked by a semi-dry brush.

I recorded 10 minutes of the resulting material to the DAW (mono).

Then I grouped together the 3 recorded sounds and placed them in the same space (with tape delay and a bit of reverb). Then, I added a fourth sound layer from the original provided material (metallic percussion), which already had a cool reverberation to it, so I put it outside of the group so that they have their own space, adding another layer of depth to the overall space of the piece.

Then I closed my eyes and recorded volume automation with a MIDI fader controller for the four tracks to introduce the sounds and fade them away, giving the composition its final shape.
