The cymbal screeches are the primary feature of this song. This was accomplished by dragging a drum stick across a Sabian XS 16 inch medium thin crash and a Zildjian ZBT 20 inch ride cymbal, the latter of which was last heard on "Ride Cymbal Ruckus (disquiet0510), where the prompt was to record one last song on a piece of music equipment. Despite my initial intentions to scrap the instrument, I ultimately kept it.
My Sunday demo of this song originally lacked these distinctive cymbal screeches. The intro was radically different and instead showcased a door squeak sample I recorded at my workplace. However, I had already used the sample in a similar context for another submission, specifically "The Empty Majority (disquiet0606), so I scrapped it and radically altered the intro with even scarier noises, including some extra synthesizers, one of which was titled “Ghosts”.
The waterphone is a staple in horror films and I was adamant about including it on this composition. Unfortunately, I lack that piece of equipment, so I accessed an audio file on FreeSound created by Thesoundcatcher. Many of the instruments, including the waterphone, were processed with the Valhalla Supermassive plugin.
