divisive argument

create disharmony and detunement among just friends

patch notes

Crow connected to norns over USB, jf connected to crow over i²c. A bipolar LFO patched to crow input 1 and selects what to change. A unipolar LFO patched to crow input 2 to change the selected thing. Jf in sound/cycle mode, monitor jf mix output. Amplitude modulation from 4N.

Human messing with knobs.

patch notes

Same as above, except no humans messing with knobs – patch is running on its own. Norns reverb and compressor.

A script about divisions. Detunes the six just friends voices.

I found jf.retune(channel, numerator, denominator) in the Just Type documentation . I have been looking/listening/waiting for inspiration for a musical (“musical”) version of this Franciska Clausen’s 1930 painting Cirkler og vertikaler I saw a few years ago at SMK.

Fun for sound and shape modes alike.

There’s a good chance this will leave your jf out of tune. If you care about tuning, power cycle your jf or run crow.ii.jf.retune(0, 0, 0) in Maiden to get back to the default series, or whatever you might have stored yourself. Or tune to something else.

Requirements

norns, crow, jf, i²c connection between crow and jf

Documentation

Choose numerator and denominator of a voice with positive or negative voltages at crow input 1 respectively. set it’s value with crow input 2. There is a parameter I could not think of a better name for than factor to increase basically resolution. Just Friends ratios range between 127/1 and 1/127 it seems.

Brilliant, I look forward to your next work, “polarization.”

Hehe nice idea, what could that be?

brainstorming

In Eurorack context polarization is bipolar voltage ranges (typically going also to the negatives), filters have 0, 1, 2 or 4 poles, and somehow about square waves… and there is polling which is a way to read JF inputs and knob positions… that is some kind of “pollarization” too… in my thinking hat…

Six “just friends”… the name is an opportunity for cultural criticism, with reminder that polarity does not mean there are just two poles, bipolarity is a special case. Hmm perhaps something more intimate, more literary… something about friendzoning, about stale love… exes… “we are just friends”…
