I’m powering it via various USB power sources, not an official RPi-approved power supply, but it isn’t showing any other signs of being power-starved (awake is currently tinkling away).

I was able to source 10 from this distributor I found on Octopart:

They were $16/each… but for me, it’s worth not having to wait 6 more months. They ship via DHL, so they should arrive much faster than ordering something on Ali Express.

You could try cleaning all the solder joints with an old toothbrush.

ok, this is very good, just finished building this this morning… it’s amazing that this is available to diy, monome has been on my horizon for so long, but always was hard to jump into. but I started building things this summer(mostly eurorack), and took a crack at this one. this community is so great, really unlike any other which I’m sure you most already know. thanks monome people for being so welcoming and inspiring

Hello! I have some troubles with CS4270 audio codec availability in my country and I’ve been wondering: is it possible to solder everything besides audio in/out section and use shield with external audio interface for some time? Even if not, I would like to check if screen, encoders and buttons work properly, while waiting for CS4270.

I’ve had similar issues with my new shield, having to rewrite different cards several times.

Since last reinstall, I resisted anything NOT offered in Maiden and have been issue free for a week.
In another week I will have another go at ORAC, I suspect that’s where I am going wrong.

Is there something specific in a log that would identify hardware issues?

I would wait, your gonna want to solder the codec first as there are many smaller parts around which will make it harder to solder, also its not going to work without the codec anyway

Just curious if you might have had connected to the input jack on the shield? (Am I right in thinking J1 is the input?)

Just replaced two faulty encoders on my shield. What is up with these Bourns encoders? Seems like they have an abnormally high failure rate.

Just built a Norns shield from a bare pcb. Upon startup it says SUPERCOLLIDER FAIL The screen buttons and encoders all work perfectly.

Connected to it via SSH and expanded the file system. Ran the latest update on the unit as well. (Raspberry pi 3B+)

Any suggestions of where to look to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks so much for your help.

Codec and Crystal are the usual perpetrators.
Could you snap a picture of that area?

Also a picture of the Pi header would be helpful

I had been inspecting the terminals on the codec with a loupe, but I hadn’t been checking the Crystal. It seems that the Crystal must’ve slid a little bit when heat got applied during Hot air soldering of some of the other components.

I will try taking it off and putting it back on in the morning. Thanks for the input :slight_smile:
