Hello everybody! Anyone has a clue about a place in Europe where to retrieve the components altogether? I found everything on Mouser except for the display: was able to find it on Luna-Displays from Germany, but the shipping cost raises up quite a bit. If nothing comes up I’ll go for it, but I’d like to hear if there’s an alternative I don’t know about :slight_smile:

Anyone out there have a micrometer that could give me the height of the display above the shield PCB with the standard headers from the BOM? in mm?

I used a different header/pin combo and I’m curious if they’re the same or not.

Where are you based?
Digikey have them in stock and I am just missing the screen.
I can get two from digikey and we can share costs.
I am in France so if you are as well this will be much easier.

I’m in northern Italy.

If I understand correctly, the display is still a missing piece, right? My issue is trying to avoid an extra shipment exclusively for it.

I’d love to share costs but am actually looking for a reseller where I’d be able to buy all the components (screen included). On the other hand we could talk about splitting the display shipping costs in half, but I think that it wouldn’t change that much since we’d still need to mail the components over from France to Italy (or vice-versa) and face the relative fee which I guess it’s gonna be around 15€ at least…

Hello everyone,
To not pay shipping costs, I have just bought two screens (in yellow) from digikey.
Of course I only need one, so if there is anyone in France interested, please PM me.
The cost will be what I have paid plus shipping (€3 France to france) plus any import duty I am going to pay (probably nothing).

on norns shield - when I plug in my arc (walnut arc4, ed. 2011) all rings flash continuously, scripts don’t (seem) to get any data. also disables grid while it’s plugged in (same issue w/ only arc though).

can anyone else with a shield test arc ? I think my arc worked with a vanilla norns I borrowed a while back which makes me think it’s a shield issue but someone could prove me wrong.

if they’re flashing continuously it’s possibly a power issue (ie, arc is resetting). are you using a high-current usb supply?

So pleased that everything is working!

Pi 4 was (as noted) a no-go with the latest image, looking forward to seeing one. Otherwise might try myself. Dug around a bit but didn’t see any specific notes/hints/scripts for building up a Pi 4 for the shield, did I miss anything? Could probably cobble together from notes on the stock norns and fates.

Luckily had a Pi 3b (no plus) kicking around and it seems pretty happy!

Ok! I have a working norns :)))) Lucky I had some extra boards I guess. Also now more practiced in finer pitch smd soldering.

i learned so much from committing myself to smd populating 3 of these

the last one worked the first time i plugged it in ! most complicated diy project i did before that was a contact microphone

yeah! some basics i (re?)learnt:

  1. solder in good light
  2. use the correct fine pitch solder
  3. don’t troubleshoot late at night
  4. place chips first, and test connectivity before proceeding :stuck_out_tongue:
  5. use a decent tweezers for placing parts

I have a factory norns that I love so much that I’m thinking of getting a norns shield :slight_smile:
beside the input/output/headphones diferences are there any other regarding use with crow, or it just works as factory norns? how about the encoders, are they endless as factory norns? maybe this as been answered here but I didn’t find it. thanks!
