Just want to say Iā€™ve been around for a week here. I read a lot though many different threads, mostly the DIY ones, and itā€™s crazy how much people get involved and help others one time after another.

You guys got me a DIY Norns and a 16n in no time. Really grateful!

can the norns shield work also as a regular audio shield for Raspberry Pi?
I was wondering if I can use it along with a Locusonus Streambox for real-time soundscape streaming.

after a month of successful usage, last night when i plugged in my norns shield it would not boot up, aka no actions from the OLED. It had worked perfectly earlier in the day, when i was loading a few patches on. It has the correct power supply. red power button comes on so juice is flowing. any ideas?

First and easiest idea would be broken sd card. Maybe you have another one lying around.

Never had a broken sd card without being physically damaged (which happened a few times with raspberrys used in an exhibition context where things got moved a bit rough or careless and the raspbs werenā€™t in a case . The problem is that the sd card stands out from the pcb and can crease/kink on this spot. Sometimes itā€˜s hard to see that it has a salient pointā€¦)
But I read that sd cards can fail after some time.

Edit: I pushed some switches and it stopped. Power cycle doesnā€™t make it sound again :frowning:

Thatā€™s actually a wonderfully poetic metaphor - the term you were looking for is just ā€˜solderā€™

Completely serviceable and understandable. I guess I usually see people say ā€˜fine tipā€™

disclaimer; As is usually the case with non-English languages, your English is vastly superior to my Italian :wink: . Better than that, Iā€™d say youā€™re fluent.

Ahah, thanks for the hints: learning is a never ending process, no matter the field, and Iā€™m always willing to improve myself :slight_smile:

I actually have been speaking English every day since childhood but sometimes when it comes to technical terms in fields Iā€™m not used to move into (this is the first time Iā€™m actually writing a post about soldering for instance) I might mix something up.

(Like this for instance, ā€˜solderā€™ in Italian is the actual torch)

All of this (excessively long) post comes down to me expressing my gratitude toward this amazing community full of people willing to help and share.

Itā€™s funny that you say that; my wife speaks quite fluent Spanish (as a second language) and sheā€™s an avid boxing fan - she has no clue about how to hold a conversation in Spanish about boxing :smiley:

Gah! Just tried making a second DIY norns with the remaining parts from my first build; it seems to work fine apart from SW1 causing the Pi to reset. Does anyone have any insight into what could be causing this? Does the switch orientation matter as long as it fits in the holes?

Guessing - check your pull up resistors for that switch for potential short

Cool, Iā€™ll trace it with my multimeter when I can be bothered.

I also built another one today but the pi doesnā€™t boot at all :frowning: Not sure if thatā€™s because I potentially fried the ICā€¦ but itā€™s a bit worrying!
