It is my pleasure to announce a new album from our very own @DuellingAnts, available now on cassette and streaming via Folded Note Records.
I’ll let Hans take it from here and fill you in on all the technical and conceptual details, but I will just say that as someone who spends a good deal of time making my way around the streets of NYC, Here’s a Little Forest has provided a very nice respite opposite my regularly scheduled chaos.
thank you @srogers91 that’s a nice space to fill !
i’m glad this album is finally out.
my process was very patchy. throughout large parts of 2022 i wasn’t particularly excited about my own work, and, consequently, half has actually existed in many versions, as i kept changing it back and forth.
at one point, instead of focusing on full arrangements and compositions, i started recording and saving separate stems from my jamming sessions to a folder on my computer. it could be experimentation with a single sound source into wrms on norns, or a simple guitar sequence. as i embraced this method, my folder quickly grew in size.
so many times i’ve been trembling with excitement over a dense texture or simple loop segment, for it to be destroyed by trying to add layers to it and build something around it when i perhaps wasn’t ready for it.
this method is cool because it let’s me focus on what inspires me in the moment, and search for combinations of parts at a later stage. like a collage.
some of the saved stems were used on the album, a lot, however, just sit there waiting for a new life. so i decided it would be nice to share them for others to use as they like. i could have curated the folder slightly, but [here they are] feel free to use them (stems-pool from half - Google Drive)
yes, good catch ! i’ve used forester on some of these tracks
I’ve been listening to this album in its various forms for months, and you really did land on the best version of it here - so happy to have been able to release this with you, Hans!
