Thanks for giving it a spin! I’d definitely be down to re-organize some of the commands, though I’m curious what others think too. Right now, they’re grouped by category (sequence, engine and then softcut), and only some have letters as labels. Putting at least the engine commands in alphabetical order makes a ton of sense and would be easy to do.

As for saving states, I love that idea but I need to sharpen my skills before tackling that  I’ll put it on my to-do list for investigation.

Awesome script. Been spending the whole day messing around with it.

I think it would be cool to have the ability to toggle notes on and off, but instead of it being a rest, still having the softcut functions.

Ex: if you choose the lowest note, and program it to actually play nothing, but then by choosing a softcut function, it still manipulates the softcut input.

In theory, if you set all steps to not play notes, but had the softcut functions, it could become a sort of weird softcut sequencer.

Idk, sounds good in my head lol

Thanks! And that’s a very cool idea – let me think on it and how to best approach it. I’m having a blast hacking my way through all this Lua stuff, but the hacking is definitely slow sometimes

I’m working on a new script right now that takes the command-based approach of Dunes and applies it to asynchronous looping. It’s a very different beast, but I bring it up because it’s my attempt at exploring softcut sequencing/mangling in a more direct way.

yo seriously if someone added drums and mastered this I’d believe it was a squarepusher track or something. really incredible!

Finally had time to play with this! So much fun just hitting randomize and seeing what’s created. I have a really awesome pattern playing right now. Great work!

:bowing_man: Thanks for trying it out!

just trying our Dunes for the first time and these instructions seem incorrect.

K2 (long press) does start/stop and K3 (short press) randomizes commands?

on K2 (short press) - I’m not acutally sure this is resetting the sequence. Looks like it resets commands, but randomizes steps?

FWIW - long press to start/stop feels a bit wonky. Would prefer a short press to start/stop and a long press to reset.

Thanks for the report @okyeron! I’ll clarify the wording, and on this…

…agreed. Will put it on my to-do list to swap these around.

More Dunes madness. Brevity is not my strong point I’m afraid, but if you make it past the 1/2 way point, there’s some nice Make Noise tELHARMONIC that comes in for softcut to work it’s magic on (after I eventually coax it in to tune)

Last night I attempted for the first time to run usb midi into my doepfer dark energy, hoping to use it as a midi>cv converter. I could see the norns recognize the doepfer, but wasn’t getting any gate or v/oct information happening. Any ideas? I’m fairly midi illiterate, and as I said this was my first attempt. Probably a more global norns setting I’m missing but thought I’d ask here since I was working with Dunes. Thanks!

@ideaofnorth - In the param menu, I believe the first option for Dunes is labeled Output and gives you 3 options: audio, audio + midi and midi. See if switching to either of the latter options fixes things!

Yes, I tried both midi and midi+audio but no luck.

Dang - sorry to hear that. Not exactly sure what the case might be. When I was testing midi out I only used a usb-din cable routed to my interface, which worked fine. Perhaps there are some other dark energy users who could clarify?

ddi a quick look at the Dark Energy manual and perhaps you need to set it up using MIDI Learn to be on Channel 1 (assuming Dunes is using channel 1)?

Thanks! I did try the midi learn button without any luck. Oddly I’ve run Orca from my laptop into the DE without having to use the learn function, mysterious.

As I’m thinking about it today I’m guessing there’s a specific power-on vs usb connection sequence? I’ll try again tonight.

Problem solved with a hard reset of the dark energy using the learn button on power up, sorry for dragging you into what was a simple issue. I’m super excited to have this functionality now. Messy and out of tune IG post below.

Thanks again for making Dunes! Love that it’s generative and so well documented from within the script.

Oh, fantastic! Thanks for the kind words, and for trying it out. Looking forward to hearing more

Any chance of crow integration for Dunes?

Hey Matt! Would you mind explaining how did you get Dunes to sequence the Minilogue? I’m trying the exact same thing but it seems I’m missing something. It works really well with my OP-1, but when I try to hook the Minilogue via USB>DIN cable nothing happens. I’d like to use Dunes for sequencing both instruments at the same time. Cheers!

I’ve been so focused on Compass that I forgot about Dunes! Thanks for the reminder. I won’t likely have much free development time in the coming weeks, but I’d love to prioritize a few small crow-friendly tweaks at some point…
