As promised, this is a thread to provide a little guidance in making this:
Using a ch products mach(n) joystick
DISCLAIMERS:
My electronics knowledge is limited. This has not caused any harm to the modules I’ve used, but dont blame me if it destroys your modules.
Your results may vary, and I’m sure improvements are possible/necessary.
This (passive) joystick requires a voltage source, I use an offset.
Okay, here’s the deal.

All that’s inside is 2 pots (x and y axis) and up to 3 buttons. On the sticks I got, the buttons were not wired to fire independently of one another. And the stick connects to PC with a db15 connector that only has 7 or so pins.
So we order this
Monoprice 6ft DB15 M/M 1:1 Molded… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UR6L96?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
and this
CERRXIAN DB15 Female Connector to… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JXYV5HV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
We then wire buttons and pots up however we please (see picture 2). I have voltage coming in, distributed to each pot and button, and then I make a connection that will go back to the db15 connector.
And we wire up this adaptor to taste.
Then we navigate music in 2 dimensions.
