I use the es-8 for this a bit. Software effects of modular signals or more likely, analog filters for soft synths

The ER-301 is a toolbox for creating effects from lower level components. Flexible face melting. Aside from that I don’t use Eurorack for effects. Too bulky and expensive.

I love AUv3 plugins on the iPad. And then there are the desktop plugins.

Oh, and norns!

I like having both as it keeps things pretty flexible and also allows me to just grab my case and still have access to reverb and delay

I just picked up the Cockpit as one of my first modules for this very reason. Plan on using it in combination with Norns, Organelle and Ipad to add effects to my modular.

In my 7U 84HP I’ve got a Pico DSP (and I’ll likely get another one at some point as I really like it), a Chronoblob delay, an 1U Intellijel reverb and a lot of my modules can do some sort of overdriving (CP3 mixer, Ultrafold, Mikrophonie, Cinnamon) and there’s some filtering in there too.

This being said, while I really want my 7U to be a full instrument by itself (with a quNexus and a small keyboard for the Teletype), I’ve just got enough space in my 1U row to add an Intellijel Pedal I/O module, which would be nice to use my EHX 22500 looper with the modular but not necessarily at the end of the chain or to use one of my Smallsound/Bigsound pedals (probably a Mini), as they’re the best overdrives/fuzzes that I know of.

I actually have a small pedalboard (Boss PS-3, ss/bs Mini, Boss RV-3, Boss PS-3, EHX 22500) for my Yamaha Reface YC keyboard that I could use with the modular but that’s a bit too much, especially as I’m trying to make the modular as standalone as possible.

I’m with you for the most part on the split between performance/sound design. But in a small rack I also resent giving up the space to dedicated fx and I/O modules.

A really good halfway house for me is the Korg Kaoss Pad. Often overlooked (even by me - had mine stashed away in a cupboard for ages until I remembered I had it) but it has some really useful, playable effects made more useful by an (admittedly limited) motion recorder and a small amount of sampling memory (which you can also resample with FX added). With a small rack it really can bring a lot to the party.

I keep mine on an aux send on the (external) mixer so there are no problems with the signal being too hot.

Seriously debating to get a used Strymon Deco to give in to the haunting voices of my reel to reel and mellotron past. And short tape echo is my thing if at all… i like dry signals too.

On the other hand thats some hefty prices for such premium pedals and euro doesnt seem more expensive anymore.

Also i got a disting mk4 and have to say the tape delay is really fine! Speed up down is quite convincing so more reason to debate about the Deco.

Oh slightly still on topic. The deco would be able to boost my passive epiano around 11-15db wich would help as i ve no preamp. I wondered how you guys preamplifie line signal, even weak ones like a passive git.
Always a preamp module/pedal or are there tricks to use sth like a vca to boost weak line levels?

There are many VCA’s that will go well above 0dB gain. The Mutable Instruments Blinds is one that instantly comes to mind.

For quickly plugging in my guitar I use my MI Ears as it is high impedance and has plenty of gain on tap (and you get really nice envelope follower and gate outputs).

I could also use the FX return inputs on my ADDAC pedal interface, as these are just amplifiers to boost the guitar pedals outputs back up to modular level.

I ve to try if the disting vca/env follower can do this.

i have one of these attached to a mobius

and one these attached to a Strymon Line delay

Most of my Effects are outside as pedals, inside is my ER-301 does a lot of work.

How do you like the Sewastopol? I have one as well but find that the amp is nearly too much and wish I could have less amplification for a finer control…

i was thinking that an i am wondering even as i type if there is a setting on the thing to do exactly just that it seems when i run ANYTHING into it anything over 1 comes back way too overdriven

I am aware of the +20db jumper but I have not set it to amplify… I wonder if there is some hardware hack I could perform…

I mostly use pedals, along with a Stilton Adapter for I/O. Works great but I find myself yearning for more control and flexibility, so I plan on picking up some modules as well. A delay with a feedback loop is #1 on my list.

If you get chance I’d highly recommend trying the Fairfield Meet Maude interfacing with your Stilton.

Its the best analogue delay pedal I’ve tried. Like a souped up weird cousin of a Deluxe Memory Man.

You can control it via CV (for control of Time and Feedback). Plus you can access the feedback loop externally (albeit sacrificing CV control as it uses the same jack).

It’s a nice pedal! But I’m actually looking for a digital delay: most analogue delays are too dark for what I want to do.

you really can’t go wrong with a crappy old boss dd-5 or 6, they’re so great

Took me a long time to get over having my DD5 lost or stolen after opening for Fridge and Explosions in the Sky in Chicago. Maybe EITS needed even MORE delay and they just took mine
