Yeah I really never swim that deep so, thank you for making these fishes surface for us creatures of the earth.

Having a similar issue as to @healthylives had. I read through what y’all were talking about, and then tried putting the softcut~.mxo in the ~/Documents/Max 7 (and Max 8)/Library folders. After this, tried restarting live, then restarting my computer, still no sound. I see the waveform updating in the UI. On latest macOS 10.14 and latest Live 10.1 as far as I know. Any ideas of other things to try?

ive not been able to get sound working either.

Mine is working fine. I tried putting softcut~.mxo into the Library folder and it stopped working, so I deleted it and everything works again.

errrr it’s possible the package may be silently breaking as I’m versioning it ? maybe just to confirm re-download ? I just pushed a version that should be packaged right

cloned prosody (and used that ekphras.amxd instead), deleted the softcut~.mxo files from my documents folders. Works great!

This device is really great thank you, I’ve been using M4L macros in Ableton to get a stereo version working.

One thing I’m looking to do is use some kind of Macro button (this would work https://maxforlive.com/library/device/5353/simple-one-button-macro) to bang specific values for the ‘Coarse’ and ‘Fine tune’ controls so I can get eg a Fifth or a Seventh instantly. Currently in Ableton all the Macros default to a 0 - 100% range which I don’t think you can change.

Are there any more succinct ways of achieving this? btw I’m no programmer and don’t own a copy of Max so my current option is to have a row of huge ‘Off’ ‘On’ buttons.

given yr the second or third person to bring it up i think it’s about time to add more quantization options to coarse/fine. I’d like stereo as well but it’ll take a bit more work on the external

The quantizations would be awesome. Stereo is great using two instances panned hard left and right and Map8 in Max for Live Essentials. It’s interesting too when slightly offsetting values for the Macros.

This is how I’m using it currently:

btw I’m curious what ‘Position’ is actually doing, there’s audible effect when moving the control but I can’t hear what is different to the loop after?

think mlr - it just instantaneously sets the playhead to a particular spot. a little weird in knob form but could be cool w/ random modulation idk

Ah ok thanks I get it! Sounds like that could be interesting with instant values rather than scrubbing with a dial.

still cant get over this thing
had a super fun session yesterday playing w/ just one loop in various ways

it’s a killer app

stoked to try this version out! thank you so much!

I actually had a draft post as a little bump on whether there would be any updates but decided not to be pushy and grateful for what’s already there.

Thanks for this, awesome patch I’m using it all the time, it’s all over my last bandcamp diary entry

feel free to request stuff - whether I have time to get to it is a whole thing but knowing what people are looking for actually helps me as a designer

I’m finding this is a great add-on for Ekphras: https://maxforlive.com/library/device/5832/note-trigger-parameter-step-sequencer

that looks fun !

jeez I honestly have no idea what other live devices are out there. always stuck in my own head/code

Hello Andrew,

Do you know more about the Cranes (maxforlive version) ? it seems fantastic but it’s not working …
Thank you !

never finished it and won’t be, sorry !

ekphras is sorta-kinda half of a cranes (anachronism has some similarities w/ grid cranes), and I have some more gridless softcut / max for live things in the pipeline

focusing much more energy on norns now that the DIY variants help keep it fairly accessible compared to when I wrote these tools, I’d highly recommend jumping in if cranes seems interesting
