i doubt they would want to introduce a new version of OT any time soon… fx box with sequencer / plocks would be a natural fit for their line but i wonder if what they had in mind was using OT as the main sequencer controlling external effect boxes such as this one. so you get the same functionality but with the ability to choose the effects and all the benefits of having a dedicated analog hardware.

totally agree, and I hear you on the pedals option, but in their defense I’d point out that there really aren’t a lot of great outboard multi-overdrive units that can operate in stereo (even in the higher end studio market). as someone who has been begrudging the lack of stereo fuzz/overdrive/saturation hardware options (or pedal options - I’ve come very close to ordering a second fuzz factory just so I could approximate a stereo version), this is finally a real solution.

that said, I probably won’t get one any time soon. wamp waamp.

I guess most guitarists tend to think of overdrive as before any spatialization in their effects chain, and their signal is mono coming out of the instrument, hence few stereo distortion pedal options available.

So, I get your point.

I’ve had mine for three weeks now and I’m very happy with it. So far it’s mainly been hooked up to the OP1.

While the distortion circuits aren’t as characterful as some dedicated units, they all sound good and are useful. Even Clean Boost adds a nice weight to sounds, which is distinct from just turning up the volume.

The filter is good. Again, it doesn’t have as much character as some dedicated units, but it responds well and is useful for shaping. The filter self-resonates and at higher resonances can add a very nice percussive attack and punch to synth patches.

Overall, I think it is a useful tool for sound design and recording, especially with overbridge integration. The build quality is very nice.

It’s not obvious from the dedicated knob interface, but I really think the envelope follower is one of the best features. The output can be assigned to anything so you can create some really cool effects.

The Boum looks cool as well! The compressor would be handy. But Overbridge should be very handy in a studio setup…

I had one but did not keep it for some reasons. First I found overbridge not working reliably. Then I did not like the filter but found them sounding to clean for my liking. Also the gain staging and envelopes were a bit tricky to dial in. Some, but not all circuits sounded very nice to me but I found it not to be worth the expense and real estate it took on the table. Now I am very happy with the Decapitator or for more distortion iZotope Trash.

Curious if anyone has had experience with using the AH as a sound interface for tracking into your DAW of choice? Are the converters decent enough?

Bumping this thread to ask if anyone has an opinion regarding Boum vs Analog Heat mkii. Intended use is to add a bit of warmth or saturation to digital signals. Also am looking at the Neve 500 series saturated, though that’s a bit pricey for a stereo pair.

never used Boum but Heat mk1 is getting lots of love in my work. Yes, it can make things warm and it can go much further. If you only need some heat, Boum is more compact and has nice user interface. I would also suggest to check Aira Torcido, it’s compact and has good sound but lacks the limiter/compressor.

I was having a lot of trouble with noise floor issues that had developed with my mk1 heat running through the analog ins. I shipped back to elektron and they said it was operating within normal levels (I was measuring about -70dB SNR, which imo is not acceptable). So I was pretty bummed about that. Luckily seems like OB 2 is solid, and so I’ve been running it digitally with no noise floor issues.

So far as saturating gear goes, I am very excited to hear more about the onkel tube based stereo di (saw you got one of these made on Instagram @madeofoak and I’m real curious of what you think!)

I can’t speak to the Heat, but I’m using the BOUM for this purpose and I think it’s nice. While it can get aggressive, it excels at subtlety and gentle warming. All the parameters interact and nicely complement each other.

The Heat does a lot more. The BOUM is just more my style.

I know what you mean. I have a BIM and just love the way it is voiced. Other delays do more, but BIM does what it does in a very pleasing way.
