My current case is a curved 12U “studio” case that sweeps from about 15 to nearly 90 degrees. Sometimes I think I prefer that, other times I wish it were a more vertical straight case. With my current desktop layout, I don’t have it sitting close and the top couple of rows are an unergonomic reach.

I found that switching cases made me prefer a different cable style – I used stiffer braided cables for vertical, so that they didn’t droop too much, but for some reason I like soft, thin drapey ones for the curved case.

I used to have a 7U Intellijel case and did enjoy using the legs which produce the angle on that case.

I decided ultimately to build a 11U desktop case which is basically vertical. I don’t use the top row in that case, it sits empty, it’s just too far away. I have a skiff in front of it which I like and use for one manufacturers modules. Though if I had a sequencer I would probably want it in that skiff.

My laptop is pretty integrated into how I use my system so I have my rack sitting right behind and above where I can see and reach everything when the laptop screen is open. I also don’t think of it as discrete rack equipment or as an instrument. I make generative music so it’s very hands-on during the creation process and very hands-off during the “performance”

i use the lids for my 3 and 6u to prop them at an angle. never really felt 0 or 90 degrees as a comfortable angle

How are people with Pulp Logic lunch box cases liking theirs? I’m considering getting one to stick Teletype in with Morphagene and Mimeophon. The Pulp Logic cases still appeal to me more than the newer options from Intellijel and 4ms since they have a proper lid that can closed patched and look pretty sturdy, and they seem to be deeper than the Palette cases / Pods. Also the Pulp Logic tiles seem to be a pretty good value for the money. Anything else I should consider with my comparison? I want something I can stick in a backpack and bring with me on public transit to play a grimy basement show.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :•)

X-posting this because it is relevant here and I wasn’t sure which would be the better fit…

Wondering about solutions for carrying a 104HP skiff over to a friend’s place, etc.

I think it’s been reported that the 4u bag works nicely with the MN skiff!

Does anyone have recommendations for a travel bag for the Make Noise 104HP skiff?

Just something that I can put the skiff in and walk to a friend’s, hop on the train (not during rush hour, lol) or in a cab and keep the bag on my lap or between my legs.

The Intellijel 4U bag is of course the type of thing I am looking for, though I do not know how it accommodates a 3U skiff. Does anyone have experience using it for other skiffs? I might just use bubble wrap and the Intellijel bag if nothing better is available.

i briefly had a MN skiff, and would have picked up the moog theremini bag for it, as it was more readily attainable than the IJ, and it’s universally regarded as a perfect fit. here’s one report:

other reports on MN skiff usage: exterior features, photo with skiff inside, and it works for NYC subway travel.

the IJ104 bag will fit the MN skiff while patched, though the picture seems to indicate it will be a much looser fit than the theremini bag, if left unpatched.

i uh went big when i was playing out and traveling with my 3u and got something like this:

I think mine is the large and it fits a 3u/104hp nicely and has room for yr socks and shirts. maybe overkill for your use case?

Thanks for the responses @ioflow and @baleen!

Decided to go with the Theremini Gig Bag… Can always just use my Tendrils cables if I want to travel with it patched.

Okay–question for folks that have built cases using the Doepfer DIY kit. I built a vertical one about 2 years ago and just left the bottom of it open so I could connect the power cord. I want to rebuild my case so it can be switched between vertical and horizontal, and be closed, but I’m not sure how I would connect the power cord. Do you have to get a short extension sort of cord to mount to the enclosure that connects to the internals of the PSU itself?

I’ve been using this to hold my Intellijel 7u performance case next to my desk or next to my drum set: Its a guitar amplifier stand from On Stage Stands. Works perfectly! (Don’t mind the mess, I moved recently)

Possibly a silly question, but how are you maintaining that angle?

It sounds sketchier than it is, but I’m just leaning it at my preferred angle on the back supports of the stand. They’re rubberized and not metal so there is zero sliding!

I’d like to place a 48 hp case above and behind my Intellijel 7U. Anyone have a good suggestion (reasonably cheap) for a tabletop stand for this?

Been looking at microphone stands which might be a solution… I am willing to mod the case a bit (a Pittsburgh cell48).

Hive Mind: How essential are rails to a case? will their absence really effect the ground/ Heat ventilation of the modules? Additionally, what are the best nonmetal materials for a built specifically, for minimal noise and ventilation.

I use the TipTop Audio rails in my builds. I use a uZeus (boost) for power which is designed to use the metal rails to aid in cooling, although mine has never gotten hot. If you were using an internal supply, you might be able to screw the modules into wood, for example. Haven’t tried this but it would keep the cost down.

I have a good amount of woodworking experience so I use wood, either local Black Walnut or Maple from our family farm. I always make a complete box, because gigging is essential for me. Hope this helps!

When I started with Eurorack I used a bamboo silverware tray with a couple of pieces of pine along the top and bottom edges inside to screw the modules into. I had a couple of blank panels next to my uZeus to (maybe?) help with cooling a bit.

To prevent getting sawdust in the modules or scratching them up, I marked the screw hole positions, drilled pilot holes, started and backed out the wood screws, then screwed the modules down… that was okay once, but moving modules was really tedious and I quickly decided to get TipTop Z-Rails instead.

Does anyone happen to know if a reverb tank can be mounted in an Intellijel performance case without interference from the busboard?
