Yea, their email correspondence hasn’t been the clearest always but they have been very helpful. I specifically asked for customization options and they said anything in any size is possible, just takes a bit more time as they have to make the templates. My totally custom 64hp 7U with the Intellijel 1U being the middle row, took maybe six weeks to arrive from the order.

Wow, these are exceptionally beautiful! What’s the trick to those rounded corners?

Thank you  I used a 1/4" round over bit for my hand router. A couple light passes then sanding to finish. I found the best way keep the seams clean was to clamp both the top and bottom part of the case together neatly, after the glue up and roundover, then sand the whole box at once where the cover of the case and bottom meet. This way everything is nice a flush before the tolex wrap. A couple more pix showing steps I went through

Awesome! I’m inspired to dive in and build my own case too. These pics are super helpful. Nice work!

how did you manage the folding/gluing on the corners?

The two pictures with the cut tolex shows the rough shape you need, and there are 4 smaller flaps to wrap each corner. I did watch some videos on people wrapping amps or boxes which definitely helped. It is a little tricky as I needed to work quickly with the glue… But the water based glue is also easy to peel and fix if you make a mistake. You definitely need a heat gun to strech and smooth the tolex out for final finish. I also practiced a lot without glue so I could have my rhythm and process in place before the glue up.

I saw that Control just listed a new in-house case with optional Make Noise power. This looks like a good option along the lines of a Doepfer low-cost case.

not related to me but there are two Submodular cases in Reverb, located in France

Out of my reach but as it was mentioned here so fondly, I though to drop a note. Once more - I have nothing to do with this, just dropping a link.

Gotta hand it to Control for doing an unpowered 6U 104hp case for $125! I use Tiptop rails in my cases and for a similar size that would be $104 just for the rails, saying nothing for hinges, clasps, and a handle. Of course they aren’t including a lid, so there’s a big saving in cost there. If price is a big limitation I can’t imagine a non-DIY solution that is a better deal if you won’t need something less fussy to travel with (due to the lack of a lid).

Seems like a pretty good deal for the powered case too. Sliding nuts are a bit unfortunate, though :smirk:

i know control has a love affair with make noise, but i wish people/retailers/builders/etc. would offer more options in terms of power supplies…

…and if nothing else, include a power switch. thats a corner not worth cutting, imo.

Looks like Intellijel’s take on the 4ms pods. Depending how the price compares this could be an awesome way to put together a small case, especially since utilities wouldn’t have to take up the 62hp. Will be watching for more info!

“62hp x 4u + extras. 14 shrouded power headers, tps30w psu core, built in dual 1x4 buff mults, midi jacks and multi purpose 1/4” trs jacks.”

i’ve been considering ways to get the essentials out of the heavy, clunky 84hp x 7u i built, this might just do it…

Wow this looks so killa.

here’s another look.

Dang. I’m almost bummed to see these cases because I’m currently working on some nearly identical cases myself. 4u x 84 or 104hp with a 4hp horizontal top row for power and DIY module placement

In fact I just welded up the first of a mini production run today.

42mm deep - literally as shallow as possible to fit an ansible.

it looks really cool.

also possibly similar to the fabled isms 2.0, which I thought @tehn said was looking to be in the 60hp range.

299$ available this summer
That’s the perfect case for a small mannequins system, one could probably hack the 3.5mm trs “midi” input as an i2c input (if there’s enough space somewhere for the txb board) and also route the txn L/R outs to the 1/4 jacks built into the case.

Just so there’s no confusion, we were working on this well before the release of the 4ms pods

Entirely possible. Wes, the other software dev at Intellijel, is planning to do this as he’s a big Mannequins fan…

Definitely didn’t mean to suggest you had ripped them off, apologies!

I think the small form factor case makes so much sense in euro right now so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the trend continues. Dreaming of a Tetrapad and Morphagene set up in one of these.
