Thanks for the kudos, but the - using the lid as stand - idea is taken from bastl’s rumburack which did serve as inspiration for my own design.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with your Intellijel case, very useful!

Moving the PSU to the middle of the case won’t really help with the depth, right?
I don’t have any 2hp modules myself, but it sounds like they are just slightly too deep for fitting above the PSU? https://intellijel.com/shop/cases/104hp-84hp-7u-performance-case/ lists it as 53mm above the PSU.
And moving the PSU to be below the 1U row means you’d have the same issue as you’re currently having with the top row regarding being unable to plug in modules but then with the bottom row.

Not sure if you’d want to switch, but I’ve been considering the Malekko PSU https://malekkoheavyindustry.com/product/malekko-power/
It has the headers sideways, so it’s slightly lower.
It has 2 more headers as well compared to the TPS80W/TPS30 Max and seems to be pretty well designed. For example it has four separate sections so you can separate noisy modules from the rest.

Well I guess if the PSU was in the middle then the bottom row of pins would serve the bottom row of modules. So it wouldn’t require as much of a mass shuffle as it does currently.

2hp modules can also fit in the case, they just need to be placed between power pins where there is enough depth. If the Intellijel case had horizontal pins this problem wouldn’t exist.

Fortunately, W/ fits as its not as deep as a 2hp module.

It’s sll good though, in general once everything is wired up, the case is great!

Has anyone used SwanFlight cases? I’m considering a 150mm 1-door 6U SwanFlight case to rack an 84HP TipTop HEK, plus a second set of rails in future.

They’re a cost-effective option for someone living in the UK but I haven’t read much about them- I suppose I’m a bit concerned about the possibility of the case toppling over when it’s standing upright.

I’ve never built a case before and I have a couple of questions for those of you that have done it.
I’ll be building a simple 7u out o metal with wood sides to simplify the process.

-What metal should I go for, Aluminum or Stainless Steel? Which one is easier to bend into a U shape?
-Is there any extra process to avoid grounding issue I should watch out for? I’m going to power it with a Malekko Power.

-Should I drill some venting holes?

  • Anyone has any experience installing modules sideway instead of your traditional 1u row? Say a 8hp sideway row.

Any input is welcomed, thank you.

If you intend to bend it yourself I would suggest using aluminium as a comparably thick steel will be very difficult to bend. I would not recommend thicker than 3mm

So I recently picked up a Mantis case and I’m really digging it. Perfect size, looks cool, reliable power, and the ergonomics of “position 2” work really well for me. Of course I won’t be able to travel with it unless I get one of those bags that require you to unpatch, which wouldn’t be ideal if I were playing a show with it. Does anyone have any “hard case” recommendations that would allow me to take it across town with a patch wired up? I know I’ll probably be stuck with something a bit bigger than the case itself, but I’m alright with that, as it’ll provide space for power supplies, cables, some pedals, etc.

Picked up one of these Cubist cases with the Make Noise power, nothing but praise thus far.

Any recommendations for desk stands, possibly with adjustable angles? I’ve been looking at laptop stands but most of them are too deep — I have an Intellijel 4U so slimmer the better.

I also have an Intellijel 4U. I’ve been using a really simple wooden reading stand, like this one.

Some guitar stands work pretty well too

Cute! They make one for cellphones that I think might do the trick

I purchased a 3d printed one for my Push and my modular from https://reverb.com/brand/3dwaves

Yep, I use a standard A-shaped guitar stand for my 6U case and it’s perfect. Folds flat for travelling, cost next to nothing, what’s not to like?

The angle, sometimes. I’ve been using A-frames for a while and would quite like something closer to 45 degrees.

I’ve yet to find something 45 for a 10u

I use a guitar amp stand:

Probably too deep for the Intellijel 4U but might help someone else

Let me know how this goes. I also have an Intellijel 4U and tried a smaller stand, but it wobbled when patching towards the edges.

It’s a bit expensive but the Make Noise stand is great.
