It’s good so far. I can’t speak for its longevity yet though…

Does anyone know anything about this case? The price just looks too good to be true, unless I’m missing something obvious.

It seems a bit underpowered depending on your setup (800ma), but i guess that could always be swapped out

I’ve attempted case builds using acrylic sheets before, and it was a nightmare. Granted I didn’t have each panel precision cut to the right size beforehand - this would be the only way i’d consider it worthwhile if I did it again. And if I had access to precision cutting tools, i’d just go aluminium.

When you make the briefcase bass how do you secure the rails? I have an old briefcase I’d like to do this to.

There are many ways. I use a wood end piece, but it takes up hp. You could just screw the rails right through the suitcase if the suitcase material is sturdy enough. You could use 3D printed plastic end brackets, or metal brackets.

Is anyone currently making a decent sized 4U case? I really like the look of the Intellijel palette case, but 62hp is a little bit on the small side. The Intellijel 4U 104 hp case looks nice, but it seems to be discontinued and out of stock everywhere…

It has indeed been discontinued, but supposedly it’s to make way for a 104hp Palette case. Not details on the ETA but it sounds like it could be in the works if you want to wait up for it.

Mmm… that sounds perfect. Thanks for the info!

I’m having exactly the same “problem” at the moment. Restructuring and can’t find a 104 4u. You could diy it, mdlr have a rails kit available here https://www.mdlrcase.com/eurorack-rails-set-4u-104hp-intellijel-1u-size/
Then all you need is some power and housing…
Otherwise the wait might be worth it, depending on the price the new 4u will be

I have 84hp 4U (w/ lid!) from here, they also make 104hp version: https://elevatorsound.com/product/damaru-x-elevator-sound-eurorack-modular-travel-case-4u-84hp-70mm-deep-black/

Very solid construction, super happy with it. It’s pricey and comes without power though.

Periodic reminder: A basic square box Eurorack case is ridiculously easy to make. You need a hand saw, a drill, and a screwdriver. If you have access to a laser cutter then you don’t even need the saw and the drill.

Hey folks. Looking for some advice getting into modular from some people who know their stuff! This is crossposted from another forum.

Hey guys. Im looking at diving into the modular world and have planned out a small intellijel pallet case. I thought starting small would be a good place and this would help keep costs down (yea right). If this isnt the place to ask for advice let me know and I will relocate!

Looks like intelligel would use M3 knurlies?

What do you think? With such a small case I wasn’t able to look into sequencers, effects, audio processing, or expressive control, but at this point manipulating modulation sources should be more than enough to experiment with!

I’d say you are better off buying a larger case if you’re even possibly considering anything more, but you could always sell the Pallet; it should resell pretty easily. Having a secondary case isn’t the worst either. Mostly I say this because eurorack asks you to drop a bunch of cash on a case and powersupply and cables before you can do anything, so you’ll generally get more for your money with a bigger case, especially if you’re not really sure what you want to accomplish with the format.

That’s all I can really speak to in this thread about cases. If you’re looking for advice on your module choices, you should post in the general eurorack question thread. That’s where people generally ask for advice on such things here.

Oops! Didn’t realize this was a case only thread when I just posted. Thanks!

No worries. I’d just edit your post and move the bits about your module choices to the other thread. If you have questions about whether or not the Palette is a good choice for a starter case, then this is the thread!

Argh - and I find myself in a completely different place. I’d been using the 4u/104 case for my “living room” synth, but realized that I needed to try using it in my studio. So I built up a little altar (https://bit.ly/30GBWXL) for the 7u/4u combo - which had the unintended effect of making me realize that this was Just Too Much. So now I’m going to try to squeeze the necessary things into the 7u case and sell off the 4u.

This is always the way it works with me and gear - I get excited, keep buying, then hit the wall that makes me feel a little nauseous. Then it’s time to back away…

I wish there was a better way for me to do this, but it never seems like an intellectual exercise.

M3 knurlies work with the Intellijel cases. That’s what I use.

Great! Thanks you @morgulbee

so true. on that note does someone have a printable 4u side bracket on thingiverse or somewhere they could link to? I know of the nonlinearcircuit cut files, but maybe its out there for printing already before i start tracing things
