I have been thinking of getting some diy modules and using 1/4"/6.35 mm jacks instead of standard eurorack jacks. I want a small utility/modulation rack (max 84 hp) for use with my Moog Sirin and Moogerfoogers, but I don’t want to go full-on 5u because of space concerns. Aside from obvious front panel surface area limitations, are there going to be depth issues with a lot of cases? I had been considering one of those 4ms pods but they look rather shallow.

If you’re planning on making custom PCBs it’s fine; consider that some existing Eurorack modules use 6.35mm jacks for line-level signals. If you want to use existing PCBs, you’ll need to mount them behind the jacks and wire them up. That works, but you’ll need quite a deep case.

A simpler alternative is to use regular Eurorack modules and get some adapter cables, like these.

I have a few of those types of cables going from my keystep to my foogers. I know it’s really silly but I’m kind of drawn to the aesthetic and feel of staying in 1/4" as much as possible, but using adapter cables is certainly the easiest route.

One non-silly reason for trying to stay at 1/4" though is it requires less planning when experimenting with my modular patching or gear setup: I can just use whatever cables I have at hand for either non-modular audio or cv.

‚Ello, i‘m looking for a wallmount type of canvas rack…like Mr. Puech is using here

I‘ve seen a danish company offering something similar, but i think they folded

my case has a cleat on it (like what you can get at a hardware store) that mates with another that is screwed into the wall.

Any recommendations on an inexpensive soft bag to carry a MN skiff in? Primarily for camping and travel…

i have an expensive suggestion:

i use this when i’m gigging or traveling w my 3u - the size smaller is just a shade small but i can jam it full of other gear or clothes. plenty of pockets and padding and an absolute tank of a bag. bottom is flat and padded so the skiff doesn’t jostle around.

cheaper just get a decent duffel and pack it properly? don’t take yr skiff camping?

Hello all!

I need some advice/some extra eyes on my case project. I ordered a beautiful wooden console case from Etsy. Now its time to add power. The case is 140hp x 6u. I’d like your input on the following as I did my research but am still very new.

  1. power:
I selected intellijel power. While researching their forum, I found that it was acceptable to chain 2 of the 30w tps boards together using one 90w brick and appropriate power entry. The idea being I could chain boards together so long as i leave headroom in terms of wattage and make sure not to exceed each individual board in modular grid. Does anyone see anything wrong with what I am planning?

  2. position of the tps boards in the case:
The front 3u of the case is a little shallow. I was planning to position the boards in the back deepest part of the case but it is also possible to have them more in the middle. Any advice on which to go with?

  3. any and all other suggestions and advice.

Edit: In my focus to make sure I got all the information correct I forgot something rather important. Thank you for taking the time to read this and double thank you in advance for your suggestions and help.

Double Edit: Thank you for moving my question to the right thread.

On the power side, running your boards off a high quality 90W brick is reasonable. The medical-grade 90W Meanwell brick Intellijel sells would be a good choice. I can tell you from experience, there are a lot of terrible no-name power supplies that won’t deliver on their specs or fail when you need them most.

From the shape of your case, I’d put the boards directly under the top row—it looks like there’s a ton of room there. As opposed to the bottom row, where every extra mm counts.

TY! I did get the meanwell 90w brick from Intellijel. I really appreciate your input.

Yes - definitely check depth before you order a bunch of modules for that bottom row. The slope on the back row might also affect your choices too.

seconding the moog theremini bag rec. it’s a perfect fit, even has a pouch for my monome & inner velcro pocket that’s great for cables.

I built a case of similar design to yours and used the intellijel TPS 80 that I affixed to the bottom with some 10mm spacers. Happy to answer any questions about dimensions, etc.

Using such big spacers means wasted space under the bus boards.

3mm spacers should be sufficient.

That is very good to know! I decided on the dimensions of the case before I added the spacers and I wasn’t attempting to save space or work in any constraints. Thanks @GouldCaseWorks! Love your work!

I built a stand using a MakerbeamXL kit for the Intellijel 7u 104hp and Intellijel 4u 84hp cases.

This allows me to have a laptop open while having easy access to both cases.

Using MakerbeamXL was the only way I could find to build a stand that was as customizable to my weirdly specific needs (has to be able to sturdily hold a 7u and 4u case vertically with an open laptop below that can fit between the tabletop and top shelf of an Ikea Jerker desk and does not require power tools to build it). I did have to pick up an additional pack of hex bolts, but otherwise I only used what came with the starter kit.

that’s so cool! are the cases afixed to the makerbeam in anyway? Might have to do some research into this.

Awesome! I’m searching for a solution to stack two 6U cases vertically and didn’t find anything. I would also be interested in if/how you fixed the cases to the stand?

Is there a way to achieve variable angles with this system or is it restricted to the angles of the available brackets? Looks like a versatile system, but there’s not much information apart from showcasing user projects.
