It’s hard to beat 4ms pods in terms of price especially since they come in cheaper unpowered versions which would make them ideal for passive modules.

The Make Noise unpowered skiff is pretty good I think

I bought the last GAMMA_SIX in stock at Noisebug and have been using it for the last couple days. I was previously using a Doepfer A-100P6 with PSU2, and some modules seem a little bit noisier than they were in that case, most notably the Doepfer Wasp filter and Intellijel Polaris, but it looks so nice and fits so much more that I still feel good about it. Remains to be seen whether the noise is actually a problem in practice – it may have always been there and I’ve just never noticed it.

The case is also incredibly light, which is really cool.

I am a beginner with modular synths and need a eurorack case. Can you recommend the Intellijel 4U Eurorack for a beginner? The 1U row seems pretty clever. Anything else I need to be aware of?

I would definitely recommend this case, or the new pallet case. The 1U row really helps with the necessary utility modules (attenuators/mults/s&h/mixers/etc), while leaving much of the rest of the case open for the fun stuff. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::sparkles:

Hi folks, I recently bought from Alberto at Case From Lake and am happy with the purchase so far. I got the 15U studio case (https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/687830767/15u-eurorack-case-powered-84-o-104-hp). My review is on that page, if that helps.

does anyone happen to know if there’s a good place to grab cad of eurorack rails? I wanted to draw up some case designs and I don’t have any rails on hand to measure right now.

There are some euro rails on thingiverse. They’re for 3D printing though, so may vary slightly from metal rails.

Does anyone have any recommendations for 6u 84hp cases?
It does not need to be powered, but preferably something light and resistent that I can travel with.

Also, European makers/sellers are preferred - to keep the shipping costs at bay. I had my eye on a Trogotronic and a MDR but they ship from US and Russia, so… Maybe Intellijel?

I have also been thinking of getting a custom Grau case, but do not know how sturdy they are for carrying it around (protecting the modules is a first!). Cannot find much information on the actual materials or weight of the cases. (I am aware of their reported unreliability, too). Any ideas would be appreciated :seedling:

Grau portable cases are wood wrapped in tolex. They are very sturdy, but a bit on the heavy side. If you’re traveling frequently with the case, this is worth considering. Despite the weight, I’ve never doubted the integrity of the handle.

The lid locks in place well. I believe you’re supposed to be able to close fully patched, but I’ve never made that work (perhaps with right angle cables).

I didn’t get a powered case, so I can’t speak to the psu.

Happy to answer any other questions.

I got mine from Clank Modular—they’re in Italy. Mine is 6u 70hp, but they do many different sizes and colors. Don’t have a Grau to compare it to weight-wise, but I reckon most of the tolex covered wooden cases weigh similarly. Mine felt lighter than I expected when I got it, but after a couple hours wandering airports with it full of modules it’s still a bit heavy :stuck_out_tongue: but mostly I would say it’s not too bad. Clank’s power is really great in my experience and it looks like they’ve upgraded even more since I got mine last year, now it includes a built in i2c power which is cool if you’re into the teletype/crow/er301/etc world of things (would be really helpful for me and it seems i missed it just by a few months :crying_cat_face: ) anyways also happy to answer questions if you’ve got them, as I’m sure are the folks at Clank they were super communicative and nice to me

There’s a new Modulaire Martime that’s 6u 84hp. I love my 68hp, they are very nicely built.

There’s also Damaru who do light aluminium cases. They do custom sizes as well as standard ones. Elevatorsound sell some of the standard sizes.

Thanks for the replies!
None of them really gel with what I have in mind, sadly… Alternatively I could just buy a suitcase that can fit a 6u 84hp Frap Plus to transport it, but I am worried it would leave too much space causing the Frap to shake around too much damaging the modules or something scary like that.

@yobink That one is actually really similar to the Frap. How would you transport it? I don’t see a pairing lid.
@renegog Hey, these actually look quite nice. Thanks! Similar to the Grau ones. Could be an option…
@Gexex Yeah… Honestly, plywood wrapped in tolex makes me just want a bespoke “raw” wooden case. Thank you
@wm.wragg Hmm, these look too cold and eye-catching to me, not too sure

I think I am going to try to find a briefcase that can fit another case for transporting. The tricky part will be actually finding something that would not make it too heavy. Tsss

There’s a pelican case that fits it perfectly, I got lucky and it came with the case when I bought it used on Reverb

I have a 7U 65hp custom Grau and I’ve been very happy. It’s with their rebranded Befaco Power Module, which is nice as it offers 5V USB and 9V pedal power too. Super sturdy build, good compact handle and tight hinges and locks. Feels premium and solid. There are most likely lighter cases but at this size I feel it’s very ok. I’ve run a few gigs with it and like the sturdiness and protection the plywood offers.

Where can I get good quality m2.5 screws? I bought a bunch from Perfect Circuit and they’re garbage, you have to be extremely gentle when tightening them because if you go anywhere past the point where they’re tight enough to offer a little resistance, the screw strips and is forever useless. Extremely frustrating to say the least.

Hard to go wrong with Befaco Knurlies IMHO, available most places eurorack screws are sold

Mcmaster.com has you covered for sure

I recommended socket head cap screws and a hex key for installation. Never strip again!

Does anyone know of a 3U 84HP case that is available in the US? The only one I’ve been able to find is the Cre8audio case. I don’t really like the aesthetic of that one.

Maybe I just need to custom order one?

I’m bummed that Intellijel discontinued their 4U 84HP case.

EDIT: Looks like there’s one from Doepfer and one from Koma Elektronik as well. Are there any other options I’m missing?
