we haven’t talked about it in a few days (Oklahoma modular crew representing here) but I’ve got a QuBit Chord V2 on the way, and for generating a lot of tonal content within a 62hp space, it might be an interesting option to consider. I say this having not put hands on it yet…

And you know I love Plaits - it has the harmonically simple oscillators you’ll find in a lot of dedicated analog VCOs, but the wavetables are incredibly versatile and harmonically rich beyond that as well. Once my new rack comes in this week (!!) let’s hang.

Depends on the chord progression and what sort of non-ET scale you’re tuning to. Most of Western harmony is based on one version or another of tempered tuning. Going full JT or weirder and playing highly chromatic progressions would probably not sound good to most people. On the other hand, if you’re playing very simple harmony in one key, then JT will sound fabulous.

new to monome gear. not new to modular. but it’s been a minute since i’ve “been in the game,” so to speak.

looking at changing my rack to be something like this (i own some of these modules already, this isn’t a complete refresh). thoughts?

Thanks @mdoudoroff, @oot, @ElectricaNada for your input!
I think I will give “quantizing the quantizer” a try to see what works (if at all…) and/or how to get closer to what I have in mind

That sounds like a plan! The more I research online, the more bewildered I become. I need to put my hands on some stuff. That’s the only way I ever learn anything.

I would wager you have a kitchen in the vacinity? That looks aerosolized oil which has become a kind of dust glue on your modular. Like Zordon suggested, you’ll probably need to remove all of your face plates, then clean any grime on the soldered components carefully by hand. Sadly there is no easy way. If you want to prevent it from happening again, you’ll want to move it further away to an isolated space or put cover over your case.

Looks solid, though you don’t have a lot of explicit voices? I’d drop the /W for a 2hp Pluck or Bell just to have more variety. You could easily tie up both Mangroves and Just Friends and only have one voice.

I’m really wondering which kind of music you do with a box like that. Would love to hear some example !

it’s true, and something i’ve debated a bit myself. i’ve been through the whole “Rings” modular phase, and not really interested in those sounds any more.

my current case is actually the larger Intellijel, which i had planned to downsize from. but now i’m debating just keeping it in the meantime.

thoughts on this? may eventually drop Maths for TT and a W/.

That looks like a lot of oscillators. What’s your play style?

for modular, influences are kaitlyn aurelia smith, alessandro cortini, and similar. very fond of ambient, but trying to do my own thing as opposed to the classic mutable rings stuff (nothing against that, just not into it at the moment).

I think having doubles of modules is really smart and underrated but make sure you buy one of each at a time so you know you like the ones you have two of!

Personally I think that looks like a great synth! I am a bit of a voice junky myself though!

i agree! thankfully, have had both STO and Mangrove previously. love them both.

Ahhh… I think I see. My own case started as a processor for external sounds. So I tend towards mixing the original sound with filtered and wave folded versions of itself. Do you find yourself cross modulating your oscillators, or is it more a stacked sound sort of thing?

occasional cross mod, but lean more toward stacked sound or multiple simultaneous parts. a little orchestra in a box, perhaps.

Nice. It’s good to hear what other people are doing.

So, I just recently re-purchased a Pressure Points. Im so glad I did. I originally sold that to buy a Pittsburgh KB-1 but realized recently how much the control surface was dictating the way I was playing. Having a keyboard quantized to a western scale makes you think in certain ways. Pressure Points frees you from that thinking, makes you think about control, and not about pitch or gate events only. I’ve decide to keep both this time and I’m finding it really fun to have two separate ways of interacting.

I am looking for a way to fit 2 AD envelope generators in 6hp, with the main intention of driving an Optomix. And I would like to be able to tweak both at the same time. Basically half a Quadra would be ideal. Closest thing I can think of is 2 Pico EGs or a 4hp Peaks, but I would like to avoid mini knobs if possible.

Any ideas?

Do you need CV control over them? If yes peaks is not an option
