Hi. I’ve read through the Mangrove x 2 threads and I’m still having trouble deciding if I want that combination (which sounds great from the examples), or a Mangrove paired with an IME/Harvestman Kermit. Trouble is I haven’t been able to find much of the Kermit working with an analog osciliator, understandably just mostly other Harvestman stuff instead. My system currently looks like this plus an 0-Coast and BSP:

The STO will G-O soon, as I’m just not digging it and the Teletype is on the way.

So, in short, does anyone have any experience with Kermit and a Mangrove working together?

Iā€˜m new to this forum, and Iā€˜m asking myself where this collective love for the whimsical raps modules comes from.
They seem to be very special and look gorgeous but is this a forum thing here?

I only recently joined the forum, but I’ve been using Mannequins/Whimsical Raps modules for the last 3-4 years. I’ve always loved the line as a deep, deep ecosystem – it invites experimentation and comes closest, in my humble opinion, to the complex routing of Serge systems. For instance, my ā€œcomplex oscillatorā€ for the last two years has been 2x Three Sisters in a tangle of cross-modulation

I have a Kermit! I don’t use it with a Mangrove, but I find it pairs nicely with the VCO on a Bastl TromsĆø - I like the contrast between the two.

Also would recommend Kermit all day long just for the ā€˜shape’ controls <3

Monome and Trent / Whimsical Raps are collaborators (and have co-released products), Trent has also been a Monome employee and done a lot of coding for the ecosystem. This being the Monome forum it’s also sort of an honorary Mannequins forum by default.

This is… such a simple thing, but was a serious ā€œah haā€ moment for me. Thanks @sandy

Three Sisters was the first filter I bought and I’ve loved the Whimsical stuff since then (have the sisters, just friends and recently got a mangrove).

If you cut through the ā€˜flowery’ (could say whimsical…)documentation and descriptions I think you’ll find a range of modules that have been designed with a clear aesthetic and sound ā€˜character’ in mind.

Plus they always pack in a lot of functionality into a small set of musical controls (e.g. The air control and formant circuit of the mangrove).

In short… they are really cool… try em and I’m sure you’ll like em :slightly_smiling_face:

Ah ok. Thanks. I expected something in that direction

Yeah, I’d love to test them some day. Especially 3 sisters

You’re welcome.

Modulars are, I think, inherently simple things - you plug cables in and they go beep.

But, that simplicity can sometimes be difficult to see, whether you’re relatively new to them or have been around them a long time. I’ve been using them for 15 years and I still discover simple things on a fairly regular basis!

If it is new then it would have come with the default scenes, so it makes sense that there would be pattern data and scenes to scroll through.

Thanks, I thought I had read that but couldn’t find it immediately

I’d just like to follow up on this post with the discovery that I had never even plugged in the hyrlo. The issues I was having with its low level and distortion were on account of, well, its passivity. Like most modules, it’s much better if you connect it. The overall output from my rack could still do with a boost, but it’s definitely better than previously.

I’m trying to understanding/looking for more info about syncing.

I have a sine oscillator signal (smaller one on top) which is going into the cutoff input for a resonating filter (the humpback – cc @infovore).

The pitch sequence is given to the modulating sine oscillator (and I manually sweep the pitch control on that oscillator in the video. The cutoff frequency of the resonating filter is static (other than the modulating oscillator).

My main questions are:

Why does syncing happen? What is causing things to mess up and stutter (most prominently around 30-33 seconds)?

Lots of good sync info here (scroll down to section 2.1):

Hope you find something of use

Hey guys I had a question regarding folding 12u cases and thought maybe someone here can help me. Is it normal when patching between 12u halves (both with identical switched psu) to have crackles and pops on the output of the patched cable (only happens when patching between halves and while patch cable is going into the input, after patch cable is connected there is no more pops) ?

I made a video showing this: https://youtu.be/KQckAnvcxwI

That’s normal if the two cases aren’t otherwise connected – there’s no common 0V between the two cases until there’s a cable patched between them, and the crackle/pop is that difference correcting itself.

Thanks! I was a bit scared of patching between the cases because of this x)

Does anyone have some mixer recommendations? The ABC I have is too fiddly to use quickly/enjoyable in a live performance, so I want to dedicate more space for mixing. I have 18hp in my (planned) case, so anything up to that is good. I’m looking at Mutable Frames or Intellijel Mutamix at the moment (both 18hp), but open to suggestions. Just looking for mixing primarily, any bells and whistles are a bonus. Not working much in stereo just now but it’d be nice to have that as an option.
