huh i thought there was but my quickie search didn’t turn it up?

a lil pair i’m increasingly curious about

Not true and not helpful. Completely different concepts and implementation.

Partially true – depending on which features are important to you – and I did happen to find it helpful.

While I don’t have a Rene, I do have a Sputnik 5-Step Voltage Source. Honestly, I haven’t used it as I expected I would, and the SQ-1 (which I put in a drawer when it arrived) could have covered it. @hermbot’s comment reminded me of that. This is helpful, because I’ve been thinking about making some space for a Rainmaker and possibly Zadar.

Well, I’m glad it was helpful to you.
But, if you’re looking at Rene when you want a simple step sequencer, then you would be wasting money.
What is cool about Rene is it CAN be simple, in snake mode, if that’s what you need, and it can be complex, too. Which is why it’s worth $500.

Currently looking for an additional LPG, modulation source, mixing and attenuation, and another delay (in order of priority). Currently debating about taking Rene out of the rack and eventually replacing it with RxMx and FXDf. The music I am currently more drone based and adding Brains and maybe a sequential switch would handle my sequencing needs.

Trying to primarily keep the system Make Noise, but I’m open to other manufacturers to fill in the spaces (MI Stages interests me). I like all of the modules in my system except for Rene (and Phonogene), but I’ve only had the Shared System for a month and maybe I should spend more time figuring Rene out.

Also considering adding Phonogene back in, adding another LPG, and leaving the rack along for at least a year.

Check out the takaab 2lpg or the meng qi DLPG. I have both and really like them. They’re also passive. The takaab is my favorite lately as it has a filter switch that changes the sound and response.

I have been wondering about the Takaab. I have read good things, but the price is almost too good to be true.

Neither the Takaab or DPLPG have mixing capabilities, correct? That is one mark in favor for the LxD for me.

I looked it up because I was curious myself. It looks like the LXD chan 1 is just normalled to chan 2? Could you be referring to the optomix?

CH. 1 offers a 12db/Octave response that is mildly-resonant, while CH. 2 offers a 6bd/Octave that is non-resonant. The OUTput of CH. 1 is normalled to the INput of CH. 2. This normalization puts the two channels in series

It’s the real deal. The jacks are a little odd, but they work.

Both of takaab and meng qi do not have mixing capabilities, but neither did the LxD I once had. The 2 sections are chained and two inputs break the normalization. LxD is also a nice option too, regardless.

Do check on output voltages when mixing other manufacturers with Make Noise modules. For instance, Rene, Maths, and pressure points put out 0 to 8 volts, for v/octave, and 10 volt gates, which is what you need to fully drive DPO, etc. Other manufacturers may run at 0 to 5 volts which might not give you the expected results. I went a bit crazy for a while, as I thought that there were standardized voltages when I first started with Eurorack.

True, LxD is not a true mixer but I imagine using offsets into the CV input (using channels 2 & 3 from Maths) could make it serve as a makeshift audio mixer in a pinch.

I have $22 in eBay bucks and the Takaab isn’t much more than than that…

will be grabbing a Takaab 2lpg and Nearness soon. win-win due to cost and 3HP each.

I’m pretty sure 2 inputs will separate the channels, but I don’t have one anymore to check. The way I understand it, the top half is normalized to the bottom half, but if you plug into the bottom half, it becomes it’s own gate.

Putting an offset into the cv is a nice feature but in doing that, the response is more like a filter, especially so on the top half.

Decided to use my eBay bucks and I picked up a Takaab for $13. Going to put Phonogene back in the rack and give it another shot before flipping it.

Temps Utile vs Pam’s New Workout? Opinions?

LxD does not mix! the normalization is confusingly described imo, but it’s really about LPF into VCA style patching

Just to offer another passive LPG option: I am rather fond of the Laurentide Synthworks VG2. It doesn’t mix, but the CV in channel 1 is normalized to channel 2 if there is no input.

Seems like there are quite a few after looking at temps. Pam’s can do envelopes and lfos, eight outputs, self patching seems deeper, expansion modules. More bang for your buck and hp? Seems like better comparison would be tempi?

Only kinda? Also, I really mean uTemps. As a big uO_C fan, I guess I was curious if anyone has used both. I am inclined towards Pam’s, but I didn’t want to overlook a good alternative.
