Sounds hella good when you feed it back on itself, too.

I really liked how well Zlob Dual VCA sounded under feedback, but it occurs to me I didn’t try that with Tallin yet. Something else to play with

Plugging the trigger out into the gate in of the “official” FF CHAOS worked a treat. Mad chaos happened and I felt pleased.

Is this working “properly?” I don’t know. It works. Things happen. I love NLC.

What problems have you been having? Intermittent connections with patch cables? Contact cleaner can be good for flushing crud out of scratchy pots but probably won’t do much on jack contacts. @prussian_zen’s suggestion of isopropyl alcohol is a good bet, have you tried taking a cotton swab soaked in alcohol and scrubbing the contact clean?

No not yet. But I am going to get the isopropyl alcohol. Yes the problem is both pots and jacks. I’ve sprayed a few of the suspect pots and things have greatly improved so I am planning only to do as much as is necessary. It’s a great idea to just swab the, rather than spraying them from the outside. Thank you

I am in possession of a VB 2012 Grid already, so I will probably give Ansible a go. The Grid was at a super good price so I didn’t think about it any further. I read Pam’s manual and I guess I will take that direction as well. If down the line I have the opportunity I’ll try Tempi as well. Thanks again for the advice!

In case you’re pushed for space/funds, it’s worth noting that you can use Ansible as a clock source by using one of the channels with a regular gate. I often do this to drive the rest of my system. It’s good to be able to occasional mess up the clock pulse by making it a rhythm instead of a steady clock for example.

I will say that Kria is the most incredible and inspirational sequencer I’ve ever played around with. I’ve used it live a couple of times and always build sequences from a blank canvas (I’ve never even saved a pattern on it). The way you can get from simplicity to complexity in a few steps by phasing notes, octaves, offsets, and gates at different loop lengths/tempos, is breathtaking. So so good!

Here’s a brief example of improvising with Kria. All the sounds here are coming from Kria into two Plaits and I’m just playing parts of the sequences live by changing the offsets with alternative note mode and switching between loop lengths. It’s very easy to get lost in this as a performance interface!

So good to hear so! My Grid arrived only two days ago and I can’t believe how beautiful it is. I want to use it with my eurorack right away. So thanks a lot for these tips, I guess I will go ahead and get Ansible without a clock source for the time being and try this you mention. I can send clock from Ableton if I need to anyway. I liked the morning jam challenge! I will attempt the same, I usually do this at night but I don’t always abide.

Ansible has a built in internal clock source! It often makes more sense to clock it externally if you want to share that clock around your system, but it’ll work without one…

…and Ansible is coming. It’ll take 3-4 weeks to get here so I’ll have read the manual multiple times by then. I am definitely going to use the self-clocking and clocking from Ableton until I choose a clock module. Tips are welcome! And though I’ve been checking other threads, each time I see a line of code my brain collapses, but I consider getting into that at some point not too far-off.

So I’m thinking about expanding from my Make Noise Skiff to a CV Bus Case and adding a few sequencers. I have a friend building me a TSNM, and I was considering adding in a René mk1 to fulfill my neo-Music Easel idea (powered by 1-3 mostly-MI voices courtesy of Plaits, Braids, and Tides).

Is that overkill for a setup of that size? Anyone else use a similar setup?

Edit: well I got a slightly unexpected work bonus so I’ll report back in a few weeks with my pseudo-easel impressions

Potentially silly question…

I’m removing a module, but will be putting something in its place in the near future - is there any harm in leaving the power ribbon attached to the bus board with no module plugged in?

It’s kind of a pain to remove the cable since I would have to remove a couple modules.

I do this all the time with no issues. You are just extending the connector (well protected under plastic). Conceivably you might pick up some noise, but I have never noticed any.

Am I correct in thinking that I can use a Unity mixer (2hp Unity) to combine gates to feed Rene?

Just check to make sure it’s not AC-coupled.

Also, when two gates are simultaneously high, the voltage will be doubled and then clipped at the max output level of the mixer, but that’s unlikely to a be a problem.

Ideally you would want to use logic blocks, like Cold Mac’s AND/OR section, to combine gates.

intellijel (and likely someone else) makes a dual passive OR module that will do this for cheaper and zero power draw

Excellent point. I think I may go this route. However, out of curiosity, would a unity mixer work or would the gates add up and trigger poorly?

Mixer will work fine. Most times you are sending gates to an inputs with a comparator whose threshold would be crossed by the voltage of a single gate. If you are adding two concurrent gates together it won’t trigger again since you’re already past the threshold.

Hi guys,

My complete Doepfer A-100 modular system is arriving soon, so I was wonderinf if any of you had experience with the system?

I am not asking any particular questions but, as I am almost a complete noob to modular, any tip or suggestion would be very welcome.

Right now I am studying on the youtube channel Raul’s world of synths and find it very useful

Rene can easily take up to 10V gates as Tempi’s output is 10V.
Like @voidstar said, maybe check the max output level of you mixer to be on the safe side.
