Thanks for the responses! I’ll look into the Instruo and Doepfer filters. I have seen the QPAS and it’s kind of a lot more than I want (though it kinda works as a stereo mixer as well).

And thanks for the tip on the Zlob SVF jumpers! As it turns out, I was jumpered for max rez and self-oscillation so I undid both of those. Neato!

While I’m here, I’m seeking another module type: a 1u stereo mixer.

• 4 channel
• pan and level for each input
• pan cv per input, level knob + cv per input

Nothing’s out there. It looks like it’ll be modding something that exists (like the Doepfer A-138s) or maybe even a custom build. Anyone interested in taking on that project for me? [bats eyelashes]

Hi folks, I have an Antumbra Knit (microplaits) which I really like. Just yesterday evening, it got locked in a mode as if the MODEL input were always held high. The last red model is active all the time, and while I can change the model with the buttons, that model is selected but not active (it’s blinking).

There is also no output on the output jacks, but there IS a small (80mV peak to peak) voltage on the input jacks.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any ideas on how to solve it? I’ve inspected the module for shorts.

looking for some input from some people who are more well voltage-versed than myself.

I’m planning to put together a small rig based around the degree vco controller controlling a vermona perfourmer.

the idea is to make a little polyphonic desktop rig and make a stand (vcs3-style) that incorporates everything. I’ll have single 84hp row to fill, but 42hp of that is the controller, so I have 42hp to work with.

only other module I know I want in there is a mimeophon. it would be nice to be able to get an external clock into the system and I’d like to be able to throw interesting clock patterns at the vco controller and modulation at the mimeophon.

what I have so far is this:

befaco midi seems nice and, because it’s 4-channel, I could use it to directly control the perfourmer if I wanted. permutation seems great for getting complex patterns. ferry seems like it might be advisable to getting levels right for the mimeophon. and ochd is some nice unclocked modulation, but is probably too many sources for a small skiff like this.

anyway, looking to see this concept sparks any other ideas.

edit - also, I have a Touche that I could integrate for some gestural CV, possibly further reducing the need for continuous modulation inside the rig.

The Touché should indeed be a nice thing for more expressive modulation. YMMV but I would most likely enjoy some logic operations and maybe a sequential switch between the Befavo MIDI, the Permutation and the VCO Controller. To spice that sequencing up a bit.

a sequential switch is a really interesting idea. I had sort of thought about each sequencing option separately (and the permutation mostly has a way to sequence interesting timing variation to both the clock of the vco controller and mimeophon), but it is interesting to think about ways to patch them together for variation.

I know about the Hungry Robot pedal/modules and the ST Modular Workbench, but are there other desktop CV processing units around? I’ve got a growing number of semi-modular/cv conversant toys (werkstatt, volca modular, sq-1), and would love to have some extra utilities on hand (the wishlist would be something like attenuversion, mixing, mults, noise/s&h, maybe some logic, potentially an envelope follower, an LFO would be cool). Wouldn’t rule out DIY, but would prefer something pre-made. Realize a small Euro case is probably the way to go, but curious if there are other options around.

Are there any threads about sequential switches already? I’m just learning about them (and ASRs) and exploring the options. They do seem useful, but some of the glowing comments I’ve read about them (the Doepfer A-152 in particular) make me wonder if there’s some deeper possibilities beyond the obvious routing possibilities.

I don’t have one (so I’m off to a good start), but I’ve been thinking about getting one and coupling it with the 0CTRL, utilizing all three sequences from the 0CTRL going into the switch, and then having polyrhythmic timing (maybe Subharmonicon Sequence 1 Clock Out) to trigger the switch, causing it to change the sequence as it plays. You’d end up with a very long sequence that has some nice variation in it, without too much repetition. Or maybe a subtle way to vary the sequence, if I stuck to a relatively simple one.

That’s all theoretical as I don’t have a switch or a 0CTRL. Just thinking…

Regarding an ASR, I would highly recommend the SynthTech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter as it has a unique delay feature that I’ve not seen replicated anywhere else. Oh, and the noise is quite nice too, it has a digital noise that has a lot of nice flavors.

Cool 0-Ctrl idea - I have an 0-Ctrl and so far I’m finding I enjoy it more as a controller than a sequencer (or a weird hybrid), but there sure is a lot to play with in there.

The E102 looks really cool - seems like that delay sort of saves you the need for a clock divider. The noise is a nice bonus too, especially since all my noise sources are a bit janky at the moment (Polivoks Modulator, Timbre & Timbre with no input the controls cranked all the way up, and a channel of Stages with a cable hanging half way out of the gate jack).

I’ve had my eye on the Squid Axon just because it’s all analog/CMOS and I can’t get enough NLC, but the E102 seems to pack a lot of nice stuff in 14hp.

I picked up the ALM Boss Bow Two and I’m very happy with it because of the three ways to switch between ins/outs as well as the CV offset to narrow number of active stages. More HP than the Doepfer but worth it (for me) for the variety of uses it opens up.

Oh, that’s interesting. For some reason, I’ve overlooked this module. This does seem much more capable than the 4HP A-151 but less so than the 16HP A-152 (which also has a T&H output section). This could be a real sweet spot between the two.

That’s one of the first things I tried when I got my 0-CTRL and it’s very satisfying, it can get very complex, the sequences are never the same but there is a sense of familiarity from all those small bits you know being reorganised. It’s even better if the clock driving the sequencer is irregular.

I’m having difficulties to set-up my ES-9 with Ableton Live in order to get the DAW to send cv & gate to my modular. Everything is noisy and not stable. Any idea what it can be?
Below is the config

and how it is connected at the moment (audio from modular is not an issue an working perfectly)
Basically I would like 1 to 8 (on the left side) to send cv & gate to my modules

Are you sending the “cv” in daw to channels 9-16? In the daw channels 9-16 out represent 1-8 out on the module.

yes to channel 9 and 10 (CV instrument). recording is super noisy out of my rings for example but audio is clean out of it without cv control from ableton

Will try tomorrow with a plaits maybe easier to find out and calibrate
