I’d go for the second row.

I‘d also go for the second row. Seems the most flexible and fun to me.

Second, yeah. Curious why the Kinks if Cold Mac?

Huh, haven’t thought about that, very good question!

I would say for the noise source and the sample&hold that I want to dissociate from Marbles’ clock?

Coolcool…but is it worth 4hp?

Clearly a question I need to figure out an answer to!

Honestly, a small mixer might work wonders in that setup, like the manhattan analog ones or the slim line doepfer one, both are 4hp. With the many outputs of the dixie, having a small dedicated mixer will make a big difference. It also frees up your vca.

I’ve got a couple expert-sleepers expanders arriving tomorrow, so I’ll measure everything when I open up the skiff to put things together. In looking at pics of the ES-8 (my main “chunky 8hp” that I want to fit sideways, the PCB doesn’t look like it goes all the way to the edge, though there’s obviously hardware out there. I’ll measure though.

Good to know about the pulp logic size. I’ll have a troll through modulargrid for 1U things that could be handy to fit in there.

I guess doing a DIY thing that’s like 1.1U or something like that may be a good way to approach it. Putting some 4hp stuff sideways would be handy, but I don’t think as much a space save as is worth the effort to do it (basically rebuilding/refactoring everything for an additional 8hp + a couple 1U tiles).

I think I got my skiff rack/skeleton from some german company that builds them to order. Where do people go (in the EU) for racks/parts for building your own cases?

Also, not really thought about how that works for 1U stuff, but I suppose it’s possible to line up and cut/screw things together at whatever arbitrary sizes one wants?

Thonk!

For the cheapest rails, the Vector TS600 set from Mouser can’t be beat I think.
I got a set and cut two of the four rails down into thirds, creating a 9U 100hp case with them.
I will do it again once I’ve filled this case, albeit in a different setup perhaps.

I go to gietec directly for rails and inserts (but in the UK, need to order enough to offset the postage cost)

Synthracks UK

very good in my experience

Agreed - good (they use gietec rails) but very expensive (I’ve used them for small quantities occasionally)

Given you’ve got Cold Mac in row two, consider swapping Kinks for this clever one: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/divkid-rnd-step.

there are all great but I’d think about envelopes more. Aside from the version with Function, you’re leaning on Stages for them. you’ll want to have at least one, preferably two, so that you’re not permanently tying up segments for that.

I would trade it out for a small mixer to mix waveforms etc. as @dubiousphil suggested. The Manhattan Analog DTM is a clone of the old Moog modular mixer in 4hp that will add some nice saturation to your waveforms pre-filter or vca.

Also - it might be an unpopular opinion but I much prefer the uVCF to Polaris.

Just got a Happy Nerding FX Aid XL and WOW this thing is fun!

Wondering if anyone could help with startup voltage requirements for tube based modules and the wmd soft start. Basically, Im wondering if the wmd soft startup would make it possible to have both of these tube modules in this rack configuration (the Bizarre jezabel Chloe stereo and Mimosa)? I have all the modules here save the bizarre Jezabels. The power supply in the rack is the intellijel tps 30 mini (1200ma +/-). I realize Im topping out the power supply at 80%, and it should be fine, but I am new to tube modules and their needs when starting up. I couldn’t find a definitive answer on this anywhere, and wanted to get some better information before I try myself and see what happens.

Are you powering a Grid from that Ansible? If so, that wouldn’t be accounted for in those numbers and could present an issue.
