Thanks for the reply, Ill be powering grid externally, so the real issue is with the negative power draw on startup from the two tube based jezabel modules. They will draw significantly more at startup which is why the wmd soft start will hopefully account for that, but Im not sure it will…

You might try emailing WMD and asking them what they think based on what modulargrid says the modules draw.

Is there such a thing as a 3U tray or bag that could be used instead of blank plates? I’m gonna have a full row unused as I grow into a new case, and I was wondering if there was something out there that could store some cables inside neatly.

Not sure, but great idea.

Coming back to a post of mine from February, my Flux arrived!

This was the first kickstarter I backed and I’m super happy I did. I really love all the features that were added in the last few months and I was super impressed how much the developer listened to the feedback they got. While the interface is not simple by any means, once I understood the basics, I was able to program a few fun rhythms. I’m also happy to report that it lends itself beautifully not only to triggering drums but also to triggering granular units on the ER-301. Some things within the firmware are not quite there yet and I think I found one or two minor bugs, but so far, it’s great.

Here’s the third thing I programmed on it. All triggers are coming from the Flux.

Did anyone else here back it? What are your thoughts on it so far?

Can anyone take mercy on me to help me to better understand the basics of the Eloquencer?

I’m trying to use the Live Rec mode to enter in a 64 step sequence. But I can only get it to do 16 steps.

I’ve looked in the manual but can find anything.

I know I need to make a chain of patterns. Func + Pattern is a step in the right direction. However I have so far only gotten it to do 32 steps.

Thanks in advance!

I’m gearing up to finally start a modular system and hoping for a bit of feedback as there’s soooo much to learn and tons of very kind, smart, and experienced people here on lines.

Looking to build a small rack for live performance based on samples, loops, effects, and modulation:

The idea is samples and live looping in the Bitbox, with samples also being able to function as synth voices. Sewastapol II handles guitar/mic/sounds in and allows adding external effects. Pam’s and Sinc are modulation for everything along with the envelope section of Sewastapol.

Questions: I want to be able to have this system work with midi devices – particularly Norns/grid, iPad, and midi twister fighter. The Bitbox has midi in, but no usable midi through so I need a separate module. I put Ansible in there to handle onboard sequencing with grid, but also to act as a host for twister and Qunexus. I know that Norns and iPad would need a host2host transfer device. I need to dig back into the Ansible threads but seems like this will work well. Opening it up in case I missed something or there are other modules I should check out.

Power: I’ve been reading so much about power and it’s really confusing. Seems like everything I read has some warning about don’t do this or make sure you do do that. Additionally – although not a huge concern right now I would eventually like to be able to power this with a small-ish battery in case that excludes certain options. I’d jast nab the Polyend Anywhere but it only has 1a of +12 and all my computer modules are really taxing. Not showing power in the rack because I am building my own case and will put it on the back or side.

Appreciate any input/criticism/suggestions you might have. Thank you!

This is kind of a meta-Eurorack question - I had to pack up my studio in a hurry this Spring and I tossed all my module boxes. Now I’m thinking about selling a number of my modules, any suggestions on where to get little module sized shipping boxes?

Hi there-

I got these and have been quite happy with them:

These particular ones are good for up to 10hp modules. You may need to go wider if you have bigger modules to store/sell.

Looks like a fun setup for what you’re after. I have a Bitbox Micro for similar reasons and I’m still new to it but absolutely love it. There are tons of possibilities with it alone. As for midi through, you might check the manual to make sure but it may be able to pass midi. If not you can get a midi through box for cheap.

As for power, I wouldn’t recommend riding the line. Try to have a bit of headroom. You could always use a regular PSU and power it with an external laptop battery.

Glad to hear you’re loving the micro, seems like a pretty awesome bit of kit. The manual says the midi out is only for the multi-sample feature. Someone did ask about an update to make it a thru though so you never know. 1010 seem to be really active on their forum.

Good idea on the laptop battery!

One of these should do the job until they add that thru feature:

And since it’s 3.5" trs midi, it’s my understanding that using a simple headphone splitter can also work. :+1:

Is there a relatively narrow module (2 to 4 HP) that can do CV-controlled panning of several input/outputs? Thanks.

There’s the Happy Nerding Dual Xfade or the Doepfer 134-2.

How do you all think about “practicing” in Eurorack? At this point, I have a set of modules I’m pretty happy with, and (what I think is) a decent knowledge of how to use them. I can build patches that sound pretty cool, but I feel like I’m sort of stagnant. With other instruments, there are active ways to practice, with a focus on getting better (e.g. practice scales, learn to play songs, solo, etc). I’m having trouble doing the same thing with my rack. What are some ways you guys have figured out to push yourself to be “better” (whatever that means for you)

Thanks! And this looks pretty solid, though it’s 6HP:

Not enjoying the Cold Mac I sold you?

ADDAC 805 v1 is 4hp and is a really nice panner - although only for audio since it’s AC coupled. ADAAC has it on sale right now on their site since they just introduced a v2. I was going to get the v2 but I decided to add a second Pulp Logic 1u Crossfader Tile and do panning with the two of them (mimicking the way the Doepfer a-134-2 works).

Edit: I misunderstood the question…but I’ll leave it just in case.

OT answer

It’s a good question. It’s something I’m dealing with my self atm.

For now I play a kind of composition - chord progressions or melody - into my sequencer. I’ll think about what I want the patch to do and then it set it up. I’ll then press play on the sequencer and then “play” the modular.

Without statting the obvious: you can get a lot of mileage out of a single composition with modular. So many different ways to approach it.

But to answer your real question, I’m just starting out so everything is new to me. When I’m deep in I find myself patching experimentally…things I wouldnt other wise think to do…like a clock signal to Maths ch 2/3 to a ch 1/4 to v/Oct of osc…(or maybe that’s an obvious?? Idk) Maybe think about areas of “music” that you would like to explore and patch appropriately.

The Cold Mac is great (still en route). I want more. Thanks for those.
