Thanks for the replies - I’ve decided to make room for the Doepfer a-138m. I’ve wanted one for several years so I’m excited to give it a try. The AI Synthesis one looks good too but for cv mixing the bipolar option on the Doepfer seems really useful. I’m having to make some painful cuts to fit it in the case though!

It is, due to being out of stock for the pre-built option.

It is however open source if you have the savvy to get everything printed and source the parts.

Why have the posts from a thread specifically about making a small. focused, Teletype-based system been moved to that generic eurorack thread ?

This is a bit overzealous, isn’t it ? There’s no chance the interesting initial conversation can keep going on in that thread now, which is even more disappointing as it’s a discussion going in the opposite direction from the usual “buy more stuff” one that is too common for modular…

I don’t really understand the need to put everything in just a few threads, it misses the mark half of the time.

I think it’s because the initial post was sort of a what-should-i-buy rate-my-rack type post and generally those have belonged here. Discussion about systems of a certain sizes have happened here and here—this second one I think could reasonably be expanded to include 62hp palettes. I thought there was a thread for teletype based systems but that, or a palette one could be a new one to start! Seems like mods like threads to start with a post laying out the purpose of the thread rather than starting with a “give me recs” thing…

I know you know this stuff already @oscillateur dont mean to sound like i’m explaining to someone who’s been here much longer than me, just laying it all out for people who are newer here, and seems like that lunchbox thread could be worth revisiting for people getting into eurorack in a post-palette world and looking for inspo!

Hello, I would like to build such a system, I also have an Elektron A4.
Can you comment on my choice, maybe I’m wrong, what would you advise to change?

It is 104 skiff and I feel the lack of a filter, clock divider, VCAs (mostly fast VCA for AM but also a larger mixer) as well as headphone output. As an option should I replace optomix with XPAN or LxD+moddemix?
I personally love sound of DPO and mimeophone.
Morphagene seems to significantly expand the capabilities of this system.
The remaining modules are selected as the minimum requirements for system to work.

I think Pam’s is a good choice. The menu is absurdly easy to use. Alternatively, you could also try crow, which could give you lots of options too. I mocked up something like what you have here, for a different Teletype box flavour. Teletype isn’t ideal for LFO’s without an expander. Pam’s has that on lock as well a numerous other tricks. Plus script space is so precious on TT, external modulation options sound smart to me.

There are no rights and wrongs for building a system. What you need to tell us though is what you want to do with this system. Then we can give you proper advise.

These are all wonderful modules. From my experience, they would make a great start but you will likely want to add to it before long.

You may or may not get a lot of opinions from the good folks here but only you will be able to decide what - if anything- you’re missing after using it for a while…

Would you be sequencing with the A4? It definitely looks fun and having an all make noise system is attractive. I would probably do without the morphagene in favor of more utilities and a filter of some kind but it will certainly work as is. If you’re trying to keep it all black both Doepfer and 2hp make black versions of their modules which you could use to fill in some gaps in functionality.

My guess is that you’ll feel the need for more modulation sources before you miss having a filter. Looks like a fun box though.

Remember that Maths can be patched to be a filter of sorts, an adequate VCA, and a clock divider… as well as other things. Of course individual specific purpose units, filter,vca,etc. will probably perform their tasks in a far less complicated way and be easier to set up. You could get 10 2HP units in that space.

Any a-152 wizards on here? I’m having a pretty weird issue and I’m trying to determine if I’ve got a jumper in a strange place or if something is fried. Basically the first 4 jacks of the switch aren’t working. Jacks 5-8 are working just fine, either as inputs or outputs but here’s where it gets weird. When the switch is in position 1, position 5 is active. When it’s in position 2, jack 6 is active. And so on for positions 3 and 4 until it gets to positions 5-8 where everything is working as it should. Any ideas? I wrote Doepfer but they are on holiday until later in January so I thought I’d see if anyone had any secret knowledge.

Are you using the clock input? If so, do you have both knobs fully counterclockwise?

Thanks for the reply. The issue isn’t with how it advances, but what is going on with the switch section of the module. Track and hold along with the digital outs are all working fine and it’s advancing as it should with either clock or cv. It’s just that when the LED for stage 1 is illuminated, stage 5 is active (same with 2/6, 3/7, and 4/8) and it ignores whatever is plugged into jacks 1-4. Again, this is for the switch submodule only; track and hold is fine.

I tested it with both clock and manually stepping through with the address knob and I got the same results.

I took it out this morning, unplugged and then replugged all of the ribbon cables connecting the three boards, firmly pushed on all of the different chips to make sure something hadn’t come loose, and it started working again! It seems that the ribbon cable is what connects the clock/cv section to the other three sections, so perhaps the connection to the switch board was loose, which is why that section was behaving strangely but the other two sections were working just fine. I had just moved a bunch of modules around so it’s possible something got jostled in the process.

I have one and other in the way (I think I’ll end up with three). It’s the most stable oscillator I have on my system in terms of pitch. I really appreciate the sound, multiple waveforms and the versatility. The sines are very clean and the PWN sound amazing… The mix output is very interesting as well (I wish it had CV control over the mix of the waveforms somehow).

But the thing I like the most is that you can easily guarantee that it’s in tune if you turn the frequency knob fully counterclockwise… Then you can change the octave at your desire on the dedicated octave knob. Highly recommend it!

edit: the other oscillators in my system are DPO, STO and Mangrove.

Looking for some advice regarding sequencers, in particular the ER-101/102.

I currently use combinations of simple sequencers (Z8009, Micro Seq), Marbles and precision adders. I use this to make improvised music such I play out live.

This year I’m planning on recording an album. I still want to make the tracks with a certain amount of improvising, but am considering the 101/102 to add more structure. It looks so powerful, so very tempted.

I’ve watched lots of videos, but want to get some first hand experience.
-Once patterns have been prepared, how is it to jam on?
-How easy is it to jam with zero prep?
