Primarily using Veils, but I also want to route to Monsoon if I have the spare envelopes. I know Veils maxes at +5V but haven’t been able to find that info on Monsoon.

I read that and watched Raul’s tutorials as well but still I don’t find an interesting or useful way to use the module. I want to give it a try before I get rid of it

I’d get Stages. You can do so many other things with Stages, but no menu diving. Even just having extra lfos is great.

Thanks for your thoughts :slightly_smiling_face:
I probably try out the Shakmat modules.

The reason for me preferring the Morphagene over the Squid Sample is, that I have an Octatrack that I use for sampling and firing drum samples.
The Octatrack is great for “traditional” bread-and-butter sampling, slicing, and file management, but my goal for the rack is to have one or two voices for in-depth sampling and loop manipulation. The OT have some good options like LFO and such, but I think that the ability to physically patch clocks, envelopes and LFOs to different sample entry points can be much more rewarding.
Like having a 1-voice OT Flex Machine track but with more possibilities.

hey all!

sent an email over to the antumbra folks/posted on muffs, but thought i’d post here as well.

picked up a used Knit earlier this year via Reverb and only recently discovered that, across most of the algorithms, i get noisy clicks and pops, and usually then only if freq is cranked up. comparing it against various Plaits demos, it’s definitely not doing what it should. the drum modules seem to work alright, but if i didn’t know any better, i’d say something is glitched out.

is there a method to reset the unit? i likely shouldn’t update the firmware if i’m having issues, right?

More details on what im looking for is a modular:

  • wav player/sampler(i don’t need sampling for what i want to do)
  • play longer field recording in a seamless loop(i know on my end i would hav to prep files to be seamless just don’t want player to add an audible gap)
  • pick a sample out of a bank as i would use one field recording for each “song”
  • pitch down and slow sample to taste
  • 4hp max(trying to build a portable)

bonus thoughts
Stereo is not needed but would be a bonus for future or bigger case. Im not looking to be hands on with this module other then ocasianly choosing a sample pitching it and carrying on the music part.

Updated as i was original looking at the 2hp Play spacificly but soon turned into something else.
I’m looking for some simple feedback or experience with the 2hp Play module.
I would love to here opinions over all but for me I’m looking to load it up with field recordings to be able to loop long loops. I cant find any info on how long loops can be and how well the looping function works. Thanks in advance.

hello,

While I have not used the 2hp Play, I cannot recommend any 2hp module.

The three (new) 2hp modules I have owned either arrived defunct or became defunct shortly after purchase.

The folks at 2hp have provided support but the quality of their products = dubious.

(edit: I greatly enjoy your “Continuous” tape; nice one)

i have a play it’s fine and as loading samples goes, relatively easy.
i use it for stabs to accompany a drum rig and it holds it’s own. My experience with 2hp modules has been fine. The module works fine and tracks well.

Unfortunately i ve had 2hp vca breaking. I got a replace on the first, changed and ic on the second one.

Mixed feelings about them.

I just went through the user manual and it looks like you don’t have a size limit, just ‘up to 32’. It’s probably as big as the SD card you’ll use but better off to e-mail them in case there’s a limit (ie. If they’re buffering, an internal buffer size might limit you).

@murray i did email them weeks ago and never herd anything…not a good sign.

@shreeswifty have you loaded any longer loops 30 isn min? or any experience with the looping…if its seamless or adds an audible gap?

@thopa thanks for the input as i never had a 2hp or looked into them other than this.

@mrsoundboyking thanks for the info starting to sound iffy even if it did what i wanted. Thanks for the kind comment about Continuous…i had a complete blast making that.

If you decide against the play and can afford another couple of HP, I recommend the Disting mk4 for this purpose. Its SD card algorithms are ace.

There is Mannequins W/. Would be well suited to this purpose with ample recording time for hours long loops.

+1 for the disting, I have been using the wav playback algorithim for looping super long stereo field recordings, i think its based on/inspired by music thing modular’s radio music module, so they are all playing like radio stations and you jump between them which works great!

@SimonKirby and @Auguste ill look at Disting as im not locked into any particular device. also stereo is a huge bonus. thanks

@Whatwetalkabout i looked at W/ but unless im understanding it takes lot more prep to record in and set loop points and things to remember about controlling it. In the end im looking to have field recording i premed on the computer and can load up for different songs and hopefully have pitch control.

Pitch and looping are dead easy on w/, changing between them would be trickier/fussy.

+1 for Disting from me too. Really good simple recording and playback algos there. Only bad thing with Disting is you’ll want a second one as there are lots of useful algos in it.

fwiw i tend to use an external device for playing back field recordings (that old phone stay handy).

i do not recommend W/ for this. you would have to record everything in (in real-time), set your cue points (and hopefully get it right the first time.

my own opinion on 2hp in general is highly mixed. i think modules in that size are handy. every 2hp brand module i’ve had with a knob has underwhelmed - TM, EG, Sine (a very handy one but very hard to tune). i loved the SH but the module eventually failed and 2hp says it’s a general design flaw so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ thats done.

I’ll second @baleen in that it’s probably unnecessary (and more tedious) to do this in the Eurorack world when a phone, old iPod, tape player, etc., would certainly do the trick and probably be a lot more convenient, e.g., dragging prepared audio files from your computer to the device.

I guess now is when i make the “how do you expect/desire your sample material to function in eurorack?”

is your model to be playing back long piano loops, and having a eurorack system respond to/manipulate them (ie filters and effects)? do you want your system to be controlling which sample is playing, at what speed and position in the sample?

it seems like Disting (haven’t used it) might have you sorted out (and have stereo for you, unclear if that’s important)?
