Ornament and Crime has an envelope mode though I tend to forget that since there are so many other things it can do. Maybe getting a smaller O & C and using the space for a LxD would be good. That and Grids are rare examples of modules I think are just as usable in smaller form. Plaits has several noise modes. Not sure I’d consider there to be a lot of overlap between Plaits and STO.

Ornament and crime envelopes can not fully open a vca since they are not 10v. I use one plaits only for noise and all the time feel like I’m wasting the module or space, so that’s an advice coming from that. As for Sto and plaits being similar I still think plaits covers a lot of Sto ground and if one specifically needs an Sto one also knows exactly what he is doing. Didn’t seem to be this case here

Very much depends on the vca! (to take just one example, veils fully opens at 5v ie 0db, and can, intentionally, distort above that…)

More elaborate wording of my comment is using O&c as an envelope has a caveat of not being able to fully open some vcas or other inputs that expect more than 6v to fully open.
I think it’s worth remembering that we are commenting on a rack of a person with not much of a eurorack knowledge. And all this little details can be overwhelming at times.
Also in my opinion envelopes on o&c are not playable due to control scheme and only useful in a pinch. As a quantizer though it’s awesome

I saw a few module specific threads for Frap Tools but no general advice, philosophy etc. sorry if I missed it!

I just want to share that the folks at Frap Tools are offering free 30 minute online sessions. I copied their post below but I’m excited to talk advanced Fumana patching concepts with them.

Given the hard times we’re all facing, we wanted to offer you something that you could take advantage of in these days, whether you are in a lockdown or not.

For the whole next week, we are offering you a FREE individual 30-minute live session with one of us. Want to know more about FALISTRI’s quadrature? Discuss microtonalities? Show us some patch examples? You’re welcome.

To book your session, send us an email at support@frap.tools and write down:
• preferred day (May 4th to 8th);
• preferred time (make sure to add both your local time and CET);
• the module(s) and topic you’d like to talk about.

That’s it! We’ll get back at you and arrange the meeting details. The number of meetings available is limited, so make sure to book early!

See you!

I saw them post this on Instagram and thought it was a very cool thing that they are doing.

Thanks for sharing that. That is very kind of them! I love Falistri and appreciate the design 333 even though I don’t have one yet. What a cool group!

My next step is to get an effect module. I have none currently and I was planning on getting a Mimeophon first but an Erbe Verb has popped up in the local market and… well, I love the sound of an Erbe Verb.

My question is, has anyone had any noise issues? I’ve read on MW that Erbe Verbs with blue knobs of serial #4492 and lower were particularly noisy, but apparently a FW update solved most of it.
I don’t mind a not-so-low noise floor. I’m more concerned with unexpected bursts of noise.
I’ve read that some users experienced “crackling” noise issues related to faulty knobs. Has anyone had to replace a knob and is this a difficult task? (it won’t be a possibility to ship the module to Make Noise).

Other than that, any opinions on the module are welcome.

got a new erbe-verb (all white knobs) two weeks ago and have really fallen in love with it- after years of not really connecting with ableton reverbs and the valhalla plugins.

it definitely has a ‘sound’ but that sound is so alive and malleable. working with it has given me more physical reactions to whatever I’m working on than I’m used to (goosebumps, feelings of bliss, fear) which has been cool too.

no issues with noise and definitely recommended

Yes, I got the Valhalla bundle last year and it’s wonderful. But I like the Erbe not so much as an end-of-chain reverb but as sound source or to model other synth sounds in the system. It’s by far the module I listened the most demos of. Lovely sounds.
I’m waiting for confirmation on the exact model, but I guess I’ll give it a go.

I misread this at first. I find Ableton uninspiring for composing and jamming in contrast with hardware. But a daw and a few plugins do provide a great deal of versatility for editing and mixing what was first recorded from eurorack or other synths.

Looking for advice on what’s the simplest way to introduce monitors to modular setup and have the ability for stereo recording of same monitored audio?
Not exactly looking for module advice, since i have 4ms listen alteady. I just don’t want to use headphones all the time

Forgive me if im just reading your question wrong, but almost any stereo audio interface will have direct monitor outputs for this very purpose. Typically you’ll also have at least one separate headphone output, often more, and another pair of line outs that can be used for whatever you’d like. There are smaller interfaces that may only record over the usb connection but I have never personally owned one that couldn’t do what you’re looking for. Hope that helps!

I want to avoid using computer. This one i forgot to mention.

Sounds like a mixer with a direct recording capability might be what you’re looking for.

So for example (I’m sure there may be cheaper options).

Ahh got it, sorry about that. Probably the most direct way would be a portable recorder, then run the line out to monitors. Since you already have an output module/mixer you can get away with something pretty basic, unless you need multiple stereo channels.

Something like a Zoom H6 portable recorder has line outs, which can be sent to your monitors.

I use this in my Tiny Studio Corner. Recorder, mixer and interface when I want to involve the laptop for recording or streaming.

Edit: it’s sitting in the X of the stand!

What current suggestions do people have for sequencing and pushing out multiple envelopes. maybe 4 or 6 or 8 channels. I like the doepfler quad asdr but its really wide though good s/h value, the intellijel quadra looks ok too. but i’m not sure of the best system for triggering these either.

Maybe one or two mutable Instruments Stages. One can provide 3 AD envelopes or 6 decay envelopes or tempo synced LFOs with selectable clock divisions.

Quadrax and Zadar are two EGs I’ve been enjoying lately. Sequence with teletype or ansible (+ grid). So many possibilities.
