You need a DC Coupled audio interface, ala es-8, to integrate VCV rack with your modular for CV.

If you can hook the A-190-4 up to your computer via a midi interface for your computer you could send CV->MIDI from VCV to the A-190-4, but you would need something like the Befaco VCMC to send cv/gates back to your computer/VCV rack.

Though I think the best option is a DC coupled audio interface.

I see a lot of cv inputs but few cv outputs to tickle them. I’d suggest a MI Stages.

Thanks for the suggestion - the Stages certainly looks interesting (and I’ve used it on VCVRack to a limited extent)

Is it just me or are the lights broken in loop mode? I’ve been thinking about filing an issue on Github, but I’m hesitant for some reason, probably because I don’t have the hardware version to compare. I’ve reproduced this in both Linux and MacOS.

I’m on VCV 1.1.6 on Windows 10. Top lights pulse when in loop mode, output indicator LEDs all seem fine, but one notable difference from hardware Stages is that in hardware the faders have LEDs that light up when a stage is active.

Interesting! Maybe an OS-dependent bug… I wonder if anyone else can repro? I just tried it in Linux again and am still able to.

That sounds like normal behavior. The color of the lights indicate which mode a stage is in. A dark light indicates that the stage is looping.

Any experience here with the athumbra dvca?
I’m thinking of buying 2 and spread them around the case (and linking them under the case)
but i don’t know if it is to crammed. I like some space around my important knobs. Is it to small for a mixer?

no need moar

I like the slow evolving stuff that I don’t tweak, just use lots of modulation. I did buy the Octocontroller, so that’s good for me.

True, thanks @renegog. The four modules I was looking at are all wildly different. I suppose my question was more like “which of these four modules is coolest?” Having bought the Octocontroller, I am good for now. :+1:

Stages is a good choice, but if you want to head more in the generative/abstract direction I would like at a dedicated random voltage module. Something like Wogglebug which has random voltages and gates is a good start but you need a quantizer, which your Disting has. Also, I really like Turing Machines as well, very playable melody generator.

If you feed it noise and gates, Stages will give you random output, with the option of slewing it.

Yeah it does do sample and hold, but personally I find a little a little cumbersome to use as a main random source.

Agreed, if you want pure random. But I prefer sampling non-random stuff and creating quasi-chaotic looping systems instead. Most often I’ll have one stage sampling whatever’s going on somewhere else in the patch.

Hmm, I guess I am a little surprised since there are 3 looping modes and it seems like they should be distinguishable by the lights. Maybe not though.

Here I am clicking the button to change modes, and holding left click down for 1-2 seconds to toggle looping mode, after which I toggle through each mode again by single-clicking.

Ahhh so it does pulse! Thanks, now I’m confident I’m looking at a bug!

I’m controlling my Eurorack from Cubase using my Doepfer Dark Energy as an interface. Are there any (preferably free!) plugins I can use to generate LFOs over MIDI to control my synth please?

After several years or playing with semi-modular synths, I’m finally building my first Eurorack.

Would really appreciate some advice.

I already ordered everything on the left side of the gap: o_C, Disting Mk4, Optomix, Maths. Also have Neutron and 0-Coast. The case is https://www.perfectcircuit.com/cre8audio-niftycase.html, which includes some MIDI in/out, gate and cv as added bonus.

Everything to the right of Maths is something that I’m considering.

The Sputnik has 6 VCAs and seems like it offers a lot for 8hp.
The Telharmonic apparently pairs well with the Optomix and can play 3-note chords.

The oscilloscope is just for learning, and only if I find a good deal on Reverb.

Interests:

Ambient, pads, drones, generative and exploration patches; also melody and chords are always nice to have an option to play… I love my 0-Coast. There is tons of Buchla music (Suzanne Ciani, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, etc) that I love hearing. Loscil, Biosphere, Emily Sprague, Anne Annie, etc. Definitely not set on East or West coast; like both; don’t mind mingling them and just exploring.

Not so much:

Drum/kit beats style of music; I have a Deluge for that if needed.

Cheers!

I thought Sputnik was out of business?
