Yep - its very close except I would like to be able to address the pitch of each filter separately.

Hmmm… will check this out.

It occurs to me that I could probably rig something up with a Just Friends and Crow or Teletype but will probably be more complicated than necessary.

if you’ve got crow or teletype you could add W/ to your considerations — but depends which controls are most important to have physically. Teletype param could be your 1 frequency knob, but you would not have 3 cv jacks nor 3 output jacks (unlike just friends). But if you want the output jacks just for the purpose of running them through VCAs independently then JF and W/ both eliminate the need for that (although, of course, they might not eliminate the desire :stuck_out_tongue: ). Can’t think of a smaller poly voice than W/ though!

I’m wondering about the 2018 Tides and couldn’t find discussion of this above… Is the frequency CV input sufficient for linear FM in sound mode? Are you able to shape the envelope in sound mode if your envelope is set to one shot? And can you run the sheep or parasites alternative firmware on the 2018 version? Thansk

Edit to also ask is self FM from one of the outputs a great way to use the various outs?

great big no to this

and sorry but I can’t speak from experience to the rest of your post

About the fm: Yes you can do that but it’s at a certain sample rate so it will always feel a bit digital.(atleast to me) Self fm can be done. Chaotic by patching one of the outputs to the fm input but a better way is to patch output one into the shift/level cv in different frequencies mode. Then the three other outputs will be shifted in frequency by the base frequency.

@baleen and @bloc thank you. could you tell me what the ramp mode does in sound range. In the one shot modes doe you need to hit it with a trigger? if so, what is the envelope shape?

It generates a very fast ramp, like you might expect. You can trigger it with an audio rate square wave and play with the time to get different timbres

Does this mean that there is no ability to shape the envelopes when its in audio range like you can with Just Friends. Apologies for all the basic questions, its not covered in the manual.
I am trying to find a modulation source (aside from maths and teletype, that I have) for when I have Just friends in sound mode that can be a sound source when Just Friends is doing modulation. I am considering a second just friends but that is out of my $ range right now and hard to come by. But a 2018 tides is available. But Tides would not be a great option as an oscillator if i needed VCAs after each output

The manual does state that the high frequency and low frequency modes are designed roughly feel the same when you are turning the shaping knobs but the exact shapes differ as to make them more useful in either range.

I’m not that familiar with JF, but Tides does not simultaneously produce audio and its own envelopes. It does have level control but you’d need to feed it an envelope from something else to make it a voice (or use independent VCAs if you want control over all its outputs individually).

I’ve become a bit obsessed with the idea of having an attenuator/offset module with ten-turn pots in my eurorack system. I’m not really sure how a project like that gets made though. I tried reaching out on the MW DIY forum but didn’t get any replies, and I tried reaching out to Million Machine March about their TENuation module but also didn’t hear back.

So I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me out? And also to see if any other people would be interested in the project–if there’s a group that can pool resources to get a batch of these made it could go smoother. Am I barking up the wrong trees? What do I do with my hands?

This seems like an extremely simple module to make yourself (on protoboard). Making it an attenuator only wouldn’t even need to connect to power. Making it an offset + attenuator would need a power header and a switched jack. Another option might be to get a DIY attenuator/offset module kit and modify it to replace the pots (may just need some new spacer bolts/stand offs) with 10 turns.

I’m sure it is a simple project but it would be a lot to take on starting from absolute 0. Learning to build modules and acquiring all the tools just isn’t in my bandwidth right now.

Thanks a lot, that answers the question perfectly

For the life of me I can’t get Grids to accept any clock with any kind of reliable behavior. I usually use Marbles as my main clock source and I have changed the resolution of Grids to all of the available resolutions and nothing gets it to track exactly with the T2 output of Marbles.

I also tried to send it clock from Befaco’s Muxlicer and nothing is tracking right.

Totally frustrated right now…

I have two Spectrums in my system and previously had Dixies. They both sound great and are fantastic oscillators. I preferred the ergonomics of the Spectrum - the extra 2hp made a difference in usability for me. Even though the Spectrum is saw core both the linear and exponential fm sounds great. The ability to choose between square and saw for the sub osc is another great feature that I use a lot.

I had this exact same problem. Maybe it was b/c I bought the micro clone version but it was frustrating enough to get rid of it!

The first and easiest one that you’re probably already doing: you gotta turn clock fully counter-clockwise

The second and a bit harder one: You may have bought it in a non-default setting. Check out the Options instructions: Unplug all CV inputs and hold the TAP/reset button for half a second to adjust Grids’ options. The switch stays illuminated. Hold the button again for half a second when you are done. Follow this reference card to know how to adjust the settings

Actually, re-reading your comment it sounds like you may have already tried that. For me, it’s been a while, but I remember I had to futz with every setting (not just PPQN) to make sure it was what I wanted before I was happy with it.

You can also go ask on the Mutable Instruments forum (e.g., this linked topic may be relevant). People there are quite helpful, including Émilie

Thank you. I will give that a try.

Looking for input on the topic of modules which provide multiple attenuators or preferably attenuverters plus mixing.

I’m looking at the Levit8 but wondering what else might be making folks happy…

Thanks!
