Exits - Urner (cassette / digital via Atlantic Rhythms)

I’m excited to share Exits, my full length debut as Urner! Musically, Exits is a collage of improvisations & compositions from Spring 2020 - Fall 2021.

I worked with a relatively constrained set of tools, centered around recording long loops of overdubbed real-time keyboard improvisations as source material, and then sequencing those raw materials into structured forms (for the curious, this was mostly Digitone/Eurorack/microSTATION recorded into an Octatrack). I also edited these recordings further in a DAW. The process of curating and ordering tracks on the album kind of felt like a macro-scale extension of those lower-level performance techniques, which was a satisfying discovery to make after the fact.

After completing this project I stepped away from electronics almost entirely, and started working with piano/pencil/paper again for the first time in years - now that it’s out, I’m excited to reunite the electronics with the slower formal composition process and move on to the next chapter

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! This community has been an invaluable resource for my musical life over the past few years, thank you all so so much for doing what you do

I’ve been following Atlantic Rhythms for some time now. I saw this being released today and thought I would give it a listen later. After reading your post, I went straight to bandcamp. The music is beautiful! Green Star just stole my heart. Congrats!

P.S. (There’s a lot of talent in this forum!)
P.S.2. Breathe Breathe Breathe Breathe <3
P.S.3. Excited to hear where this next chapter will take your work.

Thank you so much for the kind words!!! I really appreciate you listening and sharing your thoughts  Green Star is a favorite of mine - I recorded most of it right after coming back inside from seeing a meteor shower from my roof in queens, it feels the most place-specific to me out of all the tracks
