I’m really glad to note that the Disting EX illuminated jack sockets (at least on my particular unit) are pleasantly firm (unlike, sadly, those on any of my other Expert Sleepers modules).

i replaced my four mk4 Distings with two EX modules and immediately noticed the bad digital noise floor of my modular disappeared!

now to sell these four extra modules!

Its a module i made based on the most simple circuit by doepfer;
I use it to send reset signals to clocks, trigger teletype scenes…
Ill post it on my github assap, its based on this schematic:

It’s quite fun to see what new creature the EX morphs into as the algorithms come. This new single mode algorithm looks like a pretty full featured, configurable, and compact euro looper (actually 4 independent loopers). Quantized or unquantized recording, route the 4 ins and the 4 outs independently to set up a stereo mix, overdub, reverse, crossfade, etc. Seems a bit fiddly compared to a dedicated looper if using the onboard controls. But considering that everything can be mapped with MIDI opens things up - breaking the controls out across a small MIDI controller would be great in terms of interaction.

I’ve had my superdisting for a few weeks know and I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve been gifted a midi to select bus breakout add on, has anyone here tried it out? I’ve already got a midi to cv converter in my case so would there be any advantage in adding it to my set up if I don’t already have modules that use the select bus cv and gate protocol?

new 1.3 version has been posted which includes the teletype integration: https://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/distingEXfirmwareupdates.html

Multi-Sample SD algorithm works great now with the 1.3 firmware. Controlling the EX with a Nerdseq midi track is so fun. Really liking this module.

I was also having trouble with it. Was trying to play with Polyearthsea with 1.0 and most of the notes were missing. Did the update today and it works as expected!

planning to add the ability to control it directly from polyES soon.

Seems like a definite nice to have!

it’ll give you 8 voices, among other things (and velocity as a mod destination)

Still waiting for mine to arrive.

built a super simple grid teletype scene to control the looper algorithm. really fun used together with earthsea (especially if you use ansible earthsea controlling another disting ex since you can change samples).

Lovely! Getting more excited about the EX. I guess they will find their way to the US someday…

@scanner_darkly is it possible to send midi note out information from ex midi out if i connect it to ansible? I would like to plug the triggers and cv outs of ansible into the disting ex, and have the disting send the midi information thru it expander midi port.
Wondering if this can be possible via i2c or just hardwired to the disting inputs.
Could do this with befaco vcmc but was wondering if its doable with ex.
Thanks a lot!

already possible with the latest ansible beta: Ansible Development and Beta Firmware Discussion

thanks @scanner_darkly looking into it cheers!

Got it working and latency is pretty good! So now…sequence ipad apps with kria? Yikes!

I’m getting some clicking when using algo L-3 Dual Reverb in the dual mode. I have some fairly normal audio heading through it (a filtered bass line), and pretty much no matter where I have the parameters set, I’m getting consistent clicking. I have the quantized shift register on the other side, but my understanding was that shouldn’t matter in dual mode (since it functions just like two individual Distings, and shouldn’t compete for computing power). Is there some simple setting or function that I’m missing?

There’s only a single processor in the EX, handling both algorithms.

Does the clicking go away if you change the shift register to, say, the A-1 Precision Adder?
