Hey maybe I’m totally missing something here but wasn’t there a param value for total number of leaves in the edit menu previously? There is light/heavy leaf param but they dont seem to effect the total number. I had previously mapped total leaves to a midi cc lfo. Any ideas??

I changed it a while ago to the two sets of leaves, so the total number is heavy + light. It’s bass + higher notes. If it doesn’t seem to add or remove leaves I may need to add a callback to the parameters to regenerate the leaves with the current scale when the number changes.

What am I missing? Changing the “root” doesn’t seem to have any effect. Also, the tempo appears to be locked at 80. Apologies if these have both been addressed above. @ambalek

I only recently made it so you can change the tempo in the menu where the tempo is, so update the script if you haven’t recently, that might help.

Some of the note options may take a few seconds to become obvious, you can also press K2 to randomly regenerate the melodies with the current settings (K3 randomises the settings)

Awesome! Thanks. Yes, will update now.

One other question, which isn’t Fall-specific, but maybe you can help me with it; I’m trying to send midi from Fall into my Blofeld (and 0-coast, but not simultaneously). I’m using an UNO midi-USB interface, which works perfectly when I use it between my ipad and blofeld/0coast, but just can’t seem to get the shield to send midi to anything! I’ve checked the settings, and the shield recognises the interface. I’ve selected it. I have made sure that midi is going out on channel 1…no joy. Any thoughts?

Can you get any Norns scripts to send midi in that setup? I’d try a few scripts to see if any send midi, because if it works with the iPad it should be good to go

Just tried adding a line of code to add connectivity for midigrid,I.e. launchPad. Works for about 2 seconds then graphics freeze on Norns and launchpad but music keeps going.

Got it working! Tried @dani_derks suggestion to clear all the ports, by selecting “none” and then starting afresh.
Worked immediately with Awake script, but still took some weird jiggling around to get Fall working. Anyway, am up and running now. Thanks everyone!

really loving this script, i just opened up a PR adding just friends synth output – anyone interested can check out my fork: https://github.com/swbain/fall/tree/feature/jf_output

edit: that was merged very quickly! thanks

Thanks @pavlovsfrog! I can’t test it with real hardware for a while but I look forward to trying Just Friends support

I have a question regarding the scales; they don’t seem to be right. I have it currently set to A#2 and Major Pentatonic, but it’s actually playing something minor-ishy (the C# is definitely being played and it shouldn’t be). Any ideas?

I’m sorry I’m not sure, they’re generated using the musicutil generate_scales function:

I do set up scales on another instrument to play along to fall and it usually sounds ok, but there could be an issue somewhere

Hmm, alright, this is above my pay grade lol. Is there an easy-to-understand option of editing this so that it plays the right notes for the scale(s)?

I pushed a change to the GitHub repo so you can see the notes that it will use:

I had a cool UI idea for custom scales but I can’t remember what it was now, I will add it when I remember it

Could it have been the long delay setting making notes bleed over from the previously active scale? Just checked A# maj pentatonic in particular and it’s working fine for me.

Thank you so much! Seems to be perfect now

EDIT: So, as I am obsessed with Fall and Raindrops, are there any other similar scripts out there?

If you have a look for scripts tagged with midi and generative in maiden and norns.community you should find some fun ones.

The MIDI scripts I like are the Ansible ports like Kria, I don’t think I’ve used too many generative ones yet (yet! I will I’m sure)

Came back to this script recently, and have been totally loving it. I’ve been messing around with assigning an S+H LFO to the s delay parameter for some cool results.

Here’s a video of it in action

Last post in April? Unacceptable. Here’s one from yesterday:

Lovely stuff, thank you!

I’m also feeling very… autumnal right now, playing with fall and various pedals and samplers
