FWIW, I used colored Sakura Micron pens (very forgiving and easy to “erase” and start over), the finest tip I could get, when I did my Anushri (link to flickr).

Pretty sure you’re hitting what I hit. softcut was moved into a submodule, so executing
git submodule update --init --recursive
in ‘/home/we/norns’ should fix it.

Just finished building my Fates. A really enjoyable build and came together way easier than I was expecting!

My Pi is a 3B+ and I had purchased heatsinks to go with it. In my excitement, I forgot to put them on before casing it all up. Does anyone know if it’s worth taking it all apart to put them on or should I be ok without them?

No, I wouldn’t bother with taking it apart for that — I’m running an RPi 4 without heatsinks no problems — 3B+ runs much cooler.

Hi there, fresh acquiree here of a Fates - went to update it and now not powering on (because I updated with norns firmware, not fates - foolish…)

Can someone point me to a basic guide of fresh install? Etcher and an sd card reader the way to go?

Sounds like the archive wasn’t downloaded properly, or was corrupt. Did you try running the update again?

Attempted to run the update three or four times. It seemed like update file downloaded successfully (progress bar reached full, etc).

As mentioned above it sounds like the download was incomplete.

How did you DL? Did you DL in your browser and use SFTP to copy it over? Or the wget command listed on the update release page? I’d suggest trying again with wget.

I used the wget command before. Will try SFTP.

EDIT: Looks like the first download didn’t complete and that kept any subsequent try from working. Ended up using SFTP to delete the update directory and then redownloaded with the wget command and it updated successfully. Thanks for the help.

iirc when wget downloads a file that already exists (= has the same name) in the destination folder, it automatically adds a .n suffix to the newer downloads instead of rewriting the first file.
(edit. one can use wget -c URL to continue an interrupted download)
