Anyone looking for a Raspberrypi4, Newegg has the 2gb model on special for $37.99. I currently just have a B so it should be a nice upgrade.

I’ve not seen that error before.

Give it a reboot and try again?

You could also try this:

cd /home/we/maiden
./project-setup.sh

(might need a reboot after that, not sure)

Here’s what I got. Still not working after a reboot.

setup.sh

mkdir: created directory ‘/home/we/dust/data/sources’

mkdir: created directory ‘/home/we/dust/data/catalogs’

‘/home/we/maiden/dist/sources/base.json’ -> ‘/home/we/dust/data/sources/base.json’

‘/home/we/maiden/dist/sources/community.json’ -> ‘/home/we/dust/data/sources/community.json’

cp: cannot stat ‘/home/we/maiden/dist/catalogs/*.json’: No such file or directory

That’s what usually happens after running the setup.

Try clearing the cache on your browser - I sometimes have to do that with Chrome.

Same error after trying installation again and resetting Chrome browser cache.

You may want to run this up a flagpole in a “Questions” thread regarding Maiden.
(or in the maiden thread)

I had a couple of odd issues with Maiden some time ago, but now I can’t remember what I did to resolve them.

EDIT - you could also check the contents of the community json file with
more /home/we/maiden/dist/sources/community.json

which should look like this:

{
  "file_info": {
    "version": 1,
    "kind": "catalog_source"
  },
  "source": {
      "name": "community",
      "method": "download",
      "parameters": {
          "url": "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monome/norns-community/master/community.json"
      }
  }
}

Nice! How did you make that screen cover?

@static if maiden can’t fetch something, see if you can access GitHub.com in a browser or ping or whatever. If you can’t, Norns can’t either. We’ve seen more frequent brief disappearances of GitHub recently, and it seems related to where you are in the world.

Hopefully this is the cause of the problem:

Hi Mark, is there any update on this? I’d love to use my push2 working as a secondary screen and a controller for Fates! It will surely bring more value than a Grid.

It fits beautifully, doesn’t it? I did not make it, this came from the Denki Oto web shop!

This looks good!

An alternative method is to use a clear window, and place a piece of lighting gel or similar coloured transparent film between the display and the bottom of the display window.

Works well, too (though both methods do obviously dim the display a little).

Troubleshooting Tip

If everything seems to be working but you’re not getting sound when running Awake or some of the other pre-installed scripts…

Try updating (or removing and re-installing) the we script package in maiden and then ;restart or reboot.

Update: this is maybe network related - especially if you’ve connected over Ethernet first and then added WiFi.

Still troubleshooting this, but post a message if you’re having problems like this.

Had to do some hardware maintenance on my fates today. Added a cosmetic customization. A small nod to @dan_derks

— EDIT -----

Apparently I did not read the guide properly and I missed the fact I had to install the missing engines and restart the Fates. :man_facepalming:

Hi, I finally managed to build a Fates and it looks a really cool machine!

I am very new to the Norns ecosystem and I have been through the various startup guides. I am trying to install new scripts via the maiden project manager. Is this the right way to install scripts on Fates?

I am getting a few errors/missing files on some of the scripts:

  • benjolins: missing Benjolins
  • compass: missing Decimatec
  • orca: load fail
  • ash/Playfair: load fail

while others work (the amazing Dune for example :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: )

I am running Fates

Any ideas? Thanks :pray:

You need to restart after you install scripts that require a new SuperCollider sound engine.

That should fix it.

I figured out my encoder problem. It was the encoders. I had been traveling around with my fates in my bag at all times. I think I need a proper case. I had also hacksawed 20mm encoders to 15mm, which is what probably is what really lowered the life span. Anyway. I put in new 15mm encoders yesterday and everything is buttery smooth.

Does anyone have any good travel case solutions?

Please delete, my brain is fried, working fine now, cheers

I’m digging my lunchbox (from Target) Norns + Gameboy combo. I might look weird commuting on the train, but at least no one bothers me :slight_smile:
