Hi! I ended up with an Ender 3d Pro. Just been playing with it today - printing some upgrades and getting used to using slicers and working out the options/calibration, etc. Thought it was best to try simple things first before committing to the number of hours needed for a fates case! Thanks for the case design! It was the final tipping point before getting a printer :slight_smile:

Good pick, Ive been using the original Ender 3 for about a year and like it :slight_smile:
With a larger print, just make sure the first few layers adhere well, and you should be ok. Ive just installed a glass bed onto my ender 3 as the original surface delaminated after around a year and im having some adhesion issues causing print warping where some sections lift up after an hour or two

@frankchannel what did you print your case in? I just used PLA, and built my fates yesterday. Ive noticed it gets fairly warm, which will probably soften/melt the PLA over time
Im intending on experimenting with ABS, PETG or Nylon in the near future as Im in need of some mechanically strong parts for another project curious if youve worked with these materials

I used PLA, but my raspberry Pi is a 3b, so I guess it runs cooler than the new iteration? PETG is a good one to try if you are worried about the melting point. I never had good success printing ABS with my Ender 3–supposedly an enclosure is necessary for that …

Is there any reason PiJuice wouldn’t work with fates? I’ve considered grabbing one for general pi-computing. Major downside is it’s kind of pricey for what it is. I suppose you could DIY one with a boost converter and proto-shield. It would also make the current case unusable.

I just ran my first test with a LiPo and a boost converter/battery charging module and it worked as it should with a Grid attached. I connected/disconnected the external power while a sequence in Awake was playing and it was uninterrupted as power sources switched. Id like to do further testing with Orac which i believe i can add a lot of modules and stress the CPU and see what happens. Someone posted further up in the thread that the boost converted I have wont supply enough power to the Pi while charging, so ill test with my Arc and Grid and try and max out the cpu

The test prints (eg enhancements that I’ve printed) are coming out really really well - I’m pretty impressed! I got a glass plate when I bought it but I’m using the original magnetic one currently (need to grab some bulldog clips). Overall, I’m really happy with it.

I can also highly recommend JLM Audio. I have 3x 8-channel amps custom built by Joe - I’ve used them for higher order ambisonic installations and other multichannel work - flawless pieces of kit.

I printed mine in PLA and am running a Pi4, it is warm, but not so much that the plastic feels like it’s softening!

Hey everyone,

I have a couple fixes for existing installs. (not crucial stuff, just helpful in the long run)

First one fixes an issue with multiple midi devices reordering the sound card listing on boot - which could end up with a supercollider fail error because Jack could not access the dac.

Next is a fix to set the headphone volume level to a more sane level at boot. Previously the headphone level was defaulting to “full blast” and could be uncomfortable.

I screwed up my build :confused: I don’t get any sound output, but there’s some fidgety outputs on the mixer page, and when we ran a system check, the rPi is aware of the DSP chip. The inputs are also not functioning, as they should but show that there is signal (albeit unchanging) I admittedly don’t know a ton about soldering or anything but had a friend helping me out. @okyeron Do you have any ideas on which areas to check in order to start to try to remedy my problems? I feel like such a dang scrub

Sounds a bit like what I got when I fried my voltage regulator.

Remove the pi - plug in power to usb-c and check voltages. I added a visual of this on the build guide. If your not getting 3.3v check the vreg soldering for shorts (remove from power first!)

Have you checked your Power-Supply? I am ran into strange issues by using an cheap cell-phone charger.
On effect was that the I2c communctation to the codec was not stable which ended in exactly the behaviour you described.

Oh I haven’t! I will try a different power supply. Thanks so much for the advice. It’s actually really comforting knowing that other people have dealt with this issue. So excited to get it sorted out

Thanks for pointing me to the first post though, I didn’t read it as closely as I should have

I did actually update the first post about an hour ago, so it’s possible you could have seen the previous version.

For the moment, PCBs are available exclusively through my shop (in the US). Around the end of the year I will be figuring out next steps to open source the board files and/or see about getting some pcbs to Thonk or similar.
