I had to do some rework of the DAC when I built mine and managed to pull the left headphone output leg free from its connection inside the IC of all things. I applied some pressure and heat at the junction while resoldering it to the PCB and fixed it.
I had at first been checking traces, too, and eventually checked that leg on a scope and saw that it wasn’t putting out a signal. Did you check that your right output DAC pin is outputting signal?

No I haven’t done that yet, thanks for the advice, I’ll scope it tonight and see if that’s the issue. It’s make sense that it’s something in the DAC giving me issues here considering how simple the circuit is

Sorry bit confused. What’s the current update procedure?

You can follow the instructions here Fates - a DIY norns DAC board for Raspberry Pi@okyeron rolled all the fixes discussed above into the Fates update 200106.

Hello, I would like to use the midi out on PNW pe-exp 2 to sync Fates. How can this be done? I’ve seen these USB to minijack adapters but was wondering how others have achieved this? Thanks in advance!

Would you post a link to the device? I searched for those terms, but found nothing.

If it uses a minijack for midi, then probably you will need a USB to midi adapter and a MIDI-DIN to minijack adapter.

This is the one

You would need a midi input device for the Fates.

Is there a way now to have Ableton Link on Norns or Orac?

Orac supports link ‘out of the box’

Oh, maybe I should have tried it before posting here :grimacing:

Thanks for this really cool piece of software.

Okay, it works in both ways, but in the clock module the BPM display is not changing if others in the Link session change tempo.

Anyone had success connecting fates to a MacBook with a crossover cable? I enabled internet sharing on the Mac as per another Norns discussion but fates didn’t seem to pick up an ipv4 address. I could connect with ssh and with maiden if I forced an up address with ifconfig but it kept trying to reconnect every few minutes, dropping the connection.

Yes. Might have to enable ethernet internet sharing in the system prefs. Edit: I see you enabled internet sharing, so … I’m not sure what your issue might be

I do it all the time - with a mac you dont need a crossover cable. The mac ethernet ports have auto-negotiating thing going on.

I do have internet sharing enabled.

Sometimes I need to unplug/replug the ethernet cable to get fates to pick up the IP address.

You shouldn’t need to, but you can go to the norns WIFI menu and try to select Wired Connection 1.

Other option might be to try nmtui to configure the pi’s network manager stuff

Thanks, working perfectly now. I think maybe pluging it in after its booted might be the trick?

I just built my Fates from the PCB and at a short glance everything seems to work fine.

Then I tried to install sidekick/Orac via ssh connection and the automatic process suggested in the Sidekick thread but got some error messages like ‘No space left on device’ and folder could not be created…

Chcking on the computer, the 32GB SD (SanDisk extreme) shows as 512 MB
with 268 MB left and I am not able to reformat it to 32 GB on my Mac.

Though Fates did not boot anymore after all this. Rebuilding the disk image with balenaEtcher solved this.

What might I be doing wrong here?

You probably need to expand the filesystem.

Oh dear! Yes, it’s the part of the manual that says *** this next bit is super important ***

Thank you - I’ll try it again now.
