I believe the inputs want a line level signal so maybe a mic pre-amp would be needed in-between?

Yes, it really does needs a pre-amp, even with 2.0 gain in phillis I needed another 20db gain in audacity to hit 0db and noise floor is predictably high.
Need to finish that battery powered mixer…

BT version is 5.50 on the fates install.

Latest is 5.52 but not much interesting in the change logs that I can see. Looks like the BLE midi implementers personal websites gone dark too.

I think BLE midi is a distraction from my distractions. So all I will just add some more breadcrumbs for now. It might be possible to enable experimental mode in bluetoothd by adding the --experimental flag to your /etc/systemd/system/bluetoothd.service file.

Also this might help? https://github.com/oxesoft/rpi-midi-ble Note: documentation is scant to non-existent.

BT Audio would be incredible - wireless connection to your FREKVENS speakers.

Frekvens don’t have BT, only 3.5 and a mic.

Edit: I think - that’s what TE stated on Instagram.
Wow - the support page starts with “FREKVENS consists of Bluetooth® enabled sound (mono speakers)”.

I’m a moron - the Instragram story says they don’t have WiFi, only BT and 3.5mm in.

Carry on.

Hacking of the day - muddled my way through @ground_state’s instructions and managed to finally get my little Anker SoundCore Bluetooth speaker working.

Soooo… FREKVENS is probably a go

Will try to do a proper write up (probably in a new thread) as time allows

Very cool! What was the audio lag sounding like? That’sa really cool wireless audio option!

I won’t swear it’s zero-latency, and I hadn’t even thought about it, but given that I haven’t noticed any lag…

I had some quite noticeable lag in my test earlier. Wouldn’t suggest trying to run wired/wireless at the same time.

(like audibly noticeable, but not as bad as like airplay :smirk: )

Yeah, I was just figuring that might be the case with any Bluetooth (or wireless) audio. But; as a travel tool on a plane or something, or if I’m using it on the end of the chain and am not personally inputting a lot of notes or manually adjusting knobs on the rack, it’s a cool tool to have in the arsenal

Thankyou!
Been trying to get mine going with (just ftdi prog) not finding where the enumeration happens.
Took 2 hours to get my usbasp programmer working in windows 10 64bit but finally sorted it- Thankyou!
If anyone interested avedude seemed to see the device but ace-burn-o-mat didn’t. I used avrdudess as different gui - worked straight off.
Now playing mangl- truly great stuff

I am looking forward to check this and test.
Just need to know what to do…

BTW I have been able to make the DIY work on the FATES !!!
Thanks to @frankchannel for the motivation

Yesterday the parcel tracking went from “handed over to postal service” to delivered within 5 minutes ;-).
Just started hooking it up to the rest of the studio and played around with Loom sequencing a Novation Peak. Last thing to do is building a case for the grid. I already started to draw up something to print while wating for nice cases to buy or make…

could anyone possibly recommend me some knob covers for my fates encoders that would fit these https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Bourns/PEC11R-4015K-S0024?qs=Zq5ylnUbLm7asbzXWCl7uQ%3D%3D

That particular encoder has a switch which you might not want (norns/fates use the non-switch type)

The K-type shaft is knurled or T18.

Unfortunately I don’t have a link for a specific encoder knob for those

Nice encoder knobs are hard to find. I’m using a similar PEC11 encoder in one of my projects. If anyone finds nice knobs… let us know!

Congrats! I thought I was successful too as I updated and it said it completed, I rebooted and I now have a black screen. The LADS are functioning and ive tried refreshing the fates as per. Norns fresh install - when I disconnect USB I see a quick flash across the screen like the old CRT’s… Anyone with any ideas?

Please try to provide way too much information when asking for assistance.

Which update?

I don’t understand specifically what this means. Are you saying to started over with a new install of the last Fates disk image?

Disconnect what USB? how is USB involved in the update process?

Questions that would be good to answer:

  • can you access the machine via SSH?
  • can you access maiden?
  • do you have sound on startup?

my apologies, ill try again

I was successfully using my Fates but I didn’t have a network setup as ive just moved and ive been using y phone as an internet connection but didn’t bother with connecting fates till I got to my new place where I am now/
So yesterday I was organising my setup and im trying to get JF/Ansible/ect updated and I was up to Fates - I successfully collected to my local network and followed the SYSTEM/UPDATE procedure and it ran and said it had successfully completed it - just had the completed on the screen.
So from that point when I rebooted it by removing the usb cable and repowering it I have had a blank screen - I have a RED led mostly idle but I can see green accessing the SD (or trying to) - so I tried a fresh install as per the FAQin Norns, downloaded the suggested IMG and etcher and it says its successfully flashed it but still no dice when I put the SD card back into Fates…
So im not sure what to do

OK - unfortunately this is now broken on fates and updates must be done manually. This is posted a few times in the thread and is in the top post along with the github repo.

The install process for fates is similar but needs a different disk image from norns - so the norns faq is incorrect with regards to fates hardware

All fates knowledge is here at the moment: https://github.com/okyeron/fates

You will need to re-install the fates image with these instructions: https://github.com/okyeron/fates/blob/master/install/norns/Norns_disk_image_install.md

Then update with the instructions here: https://github.com/okyeron/fates/releases/tag/v2.2.8
